    Givenchy ‘Urania’ feather fronted sandals

givenchy urania shoes Givenchy Urania feather fronted sandalsFeathers are huge at the moment, and these shoes are fronted by some pretty huge feathers, so I guess that makes them the very height of fashion.Or something.

I’ve said before that I only really like feathers when they’re still attached to birds, but there’s no denying that these cut a dramatic shape, and have a bit of a vintage feel to them too, which I’m sure will delight some of you. Will the price be just as delightful? It’s $1,150, so you tell me…

I liked these shoes when I saw them from a distance, but now that I’m looking at them up close, I’m not so sure any more. The fact that they’re feather PRINT rather than actual feathers is definitely in their favour, but I think my own bias against feathers of all forms is what’s putting me off. Still, they’re a different kind of “animal print” from the usual leopard and zebra offerings, and I’m sure they’ll appeal to someone.

If that someone is you, these are £549 at Far Fetch.

Leather ‘feather’ ankle boots from River Island

feather anke boots Leather feather ankle boots from River IslandRiver Island have just added a selection of new ankle boots from their “Premium” (read: “Slightly more expensive than usual”) collection onto their website, and among them I spotted these feather-embellished ankle boots. Of course, the feathers aren’t real – they’re made of leather – but even so, their presence on these boots is definitely different, isn’t it?

Personally, I’m not keen on feathers. I don’t know why, it’s just one of those things that turn me off things (and if they’re real feathers, I have to admit, I find them a little bit creepy for some reason), so my bank balance is safe from these. What do you think, though? Are they unusual in a good way, or unusual in a bad way?

Either way, they’re £140 from River Island.

Oscar de la Renta embroidered feather pumps

oscar de la renta embroider Oscar de la Renta embroidered feather pumpsOK, Oscar de la Renta, you win the prize for Most Overly Embellished Toe Ever. Or for this week, anyway.

Are they too embellished? Personally, I’d have to say, “hell, yes!”, but you, of course, may feel differently. It’s strange, because when viewed from the side, these shoes didn’t really attract my attention: it’s only when you see them from above that you realise how many things the designer has managed to cram onto that toe: feathers, crystals, ribbons, more crystals, the kitchen sink…

They’re not for me, but if they’re calling your name, they’re $695 at Nordstrom.

Ugly Shoe Deja Vu: Bakers’ version of Louis Vuitton’s feather sandals

bakers louis vuitton Ugly Shoe Deja Vu: Bakers version of Louis Vuittons feather sandals

So, I have a question: why is it always the ugliest designer shoes around that end up being copied by cheaper brands? Or it seems that way, anyway. I have no love at all for Louis Vuitton’s current feather-decorated collection, but someone obviously does, because not only have the shoes in question been copied by Bebe (as noted by The Fashion Police last month), now Bakers have got in on the act with their ‘Feather’ shoes (above, also available in black).

Granted, these are far from being exact copies, but it seems clear where the inspiration has come from, no? Good news if you’re a big Louis Vuitton fan, I guess, but I suspect I’m not the only one who wouldn’t touch these with a stiletto heel.

The Bebe versions, which are a much more direct copy, are pictured under the jump…

L.A.M.B’s Lesley One Band Feather Sandals

lamb feather sandals L.A.M.Bs Lesley One Band Feather Sandals

Apologies for writing about L.A.M.B again so soon after the last time, but I spotted these ‘Lesley’ sandals at Shopbop today, and wondered what you all think of  them,

Now, I’m no friend of feathers. It’s one of those irrational, not-quite-a-phobia things that I can’t rationally explain, but feathers tend to creep me out a little bit – or at least they do when they’re not attached to birds.  So these shoes don’t really do it for me, even although they’re unusual and dramatic enough to get my attention, and I usually love L.A.M.B shoes (with the exception of those last ones).

What do you think of them? If you love them, they’re $355 from Shopbop.
