Irregular Choice Toodle Loo Mohawk court shoes

irregular chioce toodle loo1 Irregular Choice Toodle Loo Mohawk court shoesSuede uppers with a metallic overlay, a generously sized corsage on the toe, a feather sticking out the side of it, and… actually, I don’t know what you’d call the detailing on the heel. There’s definitely rather a lot going on with Irregular Choice’s Toodle Loo Mowkawk pumps, but I love all of it: well, almost all of it – I could live without the feather and the heel… thing… but the gorgeously curved heel and beautiful uppers make up for those two minor points. These look like old-fashioned court shoes in the true sense of the phrase, and I’d have to agree with Schuh’s description of them as “opulent”.

Roberto Cavalli feather embellished t-bar sandals

roberto cavalli feather sandals Roberto Cavalli feather embellished t bar sandalsAt last, a pair of feather-embellished shoes I can really love – not least because the feather on these Roberto Cavalli sandals isn’t actually real, but is leather embellished with Swarovski crystals. In fact, that feather is a work of art all on its own, and is well worth a closer look, so I recommend heading over to Net-a-Porter and taking advantage of their “zoom” function to see it in all its glory!

As for the shoes themselves, well, take away the feather and you’d be left with a simple but elegant pair of silver sandals, of the kind that will easily see you through as many evenings out as you want them to. It’s a good job, too, because at £730 you’re going to have to wear them a lot of times to get your money’s worth!

ASOS ‘Boa’ feather suede court shoes

feathered court shoes ASOS Boa feather suede court shoesWell, it looks like feathers are definitely the footwear trend of the season. This is the second pair of feathered heels I’ve shown you recently, but unlike the Manolo Blahnik’s I featured last week, I’m going to be a little more reserved in my appreciation of these ASOS court shoes, partly because I can’t help thinking that, from some angles, you could end up looking like you skewered a bird on your stiletto en route to the party.

I also worry about how well feathers will “weather”. Will they start to look bedraggled after a couple of wears? Would you have to wash them? What if they got caught in a sudden shower? All of these questions prevent me from reaching for my credit card and splashing out the required £100 on these, although, I must admit, there is something rather appealing about the idea of having wings on your heels. Just ask Hermes. (The Greek God, I mean. Not the luxury fashion brand.)

Manolo Blahnik ‘Eila’ feather t-strap sandals

Now for something completely and utterly extravagant – and I’m not just talking about the $830 price tag! There’s just something very decadent looking about these Manolo Blahnik t-straps, which seem to hail from another era – and an altogether more glamorous one at that. I think they’d make wonderful wedding shoes, although if you really love them, you might think it’s a shame to hide them away under a long gown.

Do you love them, though?

Martinez Valero ‘Carla’ green satin peacock feather sandals

Especially for those of you who love our feathered friends enough to wear them on your feet…

When I look at these Martinez Valero sandals, two main thoughts run through my head. One is that it would be a lot of fun to watch someone with ticklish ankles try to wear these. The other is that anyone who DID try to wear them, could just end up looking like they were half woman, half bird. Which would be… interesting. Maybe a little scary. Definitely something a little bit different, though, so if you like your shoes to be just a shade exotic, these could be the ones for you. If they are, head over to Heels.com, where you can buy them for $174.99.

Shannon Britt ‘Abbey’ pointed toe feather pumps

shannon britt flats Shannon Britt Abbey pointed toe feather pumpsOK, I know I said I was coming round to the idea of feathers on footwear, but these shoes are just flat-out bizarre to me. I mean, how would you walk in them without standing on the feathers all the time, and tripping yourself up on them? Wouldn’t they get absolutely filthy from trailing along the floor constantly? Do they remind anyone else of a dead bird lying on someone’s foot? Is it just me?

If it is, these are $300 at Endless, and are sold as wedding shoes, although I guess you could wear them anywhere that seemed to require white, feathery shoes. I’m just not sure where, exactly, that might be…

Valentino feather-trimmed satin sandals

valentino feather sandals Valentino feather trimmed satin sandalsI’m starting to come round to the idea of feathery footwear. I’ve always had a very mild phobia about feathers, not just on shoes, but on anything other than birds, basically, but there’s no denying the sheer drama they can bring to a shoe, and in my book, “drama” is always a good word to be able to use about your footwear.

These Valentino sandals, then, get a tentative thumbs-up from me, although I do have my concerns about the amount of volume they’ll add to the ankles. Shoes + drama may be an excellent combination, but ankles + volume generally isn’t, is it?

Jimmy Choo ‘Mable’ feather-adorned biker sandals

Finally, a pair of shoes with the power to change my mind about feathers! Even I have to admit that the feathers on Jimmy Choo’s ‘Mable’ sandals add a certain something to look, and while I’d quibble with the description of them as “biker” sandals – a scattering of studs does not a “biker” shoe make – I think they’re rather wonderful. At $1,295, though, I can only assume that the feathers came from the Dodo – ouch!
