My first thought upon looking at these shoes? “Thank God they zip up the back!” Well, I can’t imagine wanting to sit and do up all those buckles first thing in the morning, can you?

Luckily, the buckles are just for show, and quite a show they make, too, with five gold buckles contrasting with the pale uppers and giving them a slightly military feel. They also have a 4.4″ heel and a 1″ covered platform, plus a rugged little rubber sole to make them easier to stay upright in on a frosty morning.

These are £45 and are also available in black: click here to buy them.

Bright green buckled court shoes from River Island

Could it be that the era of the high platform and even higher heel is slowly starting to end? Well, I somehow doubt it, but we have been starting to see a few more lower-than-usual heels lately, which makes for a nice change.

These ones are £44.99, and I love the bright green colour, which was what originally caught my eye here. Closer inspection reveals a nice little triangular heel, and a big old brass buckle at the front. These are also available in black, and you can grab a pair at River Island.

Crystal buckle sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti

Giuseppe Zanotti crystal bu Crystal buckle sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti If these shoes weren’t so mind-bogglingly expensive (they’re £714), I’d probably really love them. They’re a nice take on the traditional strappy sandal: still strappy, still sparkly, but with three big over-sized buckles and some black leather straps to bring them up to date. Given that they ARE mind-bogglingly expensive, however, I… well, actually, I still really love, just from a distance. A really long distance.
