Marni satin square toe pumps

marni-square-toe-pumpsOf all of the toe shapes out there, square toes have always been my least favourite, and, well, these Marni pumps haven’t done much to change that: I like them, but I know I’d like them a whole lot more with a different shape at the front. I AM keen on the over sized buckles, though, and the curved heel, which isn’t really shown to best advantage in this particular photo, is rather lovely, too. And they look great on the Net-a-Porter model.

Hmmm, maybe I’ve just talked myself around?

Olivia Morris patent buckle sandals

olivia-morris-patent-buckle

Raffia and patent isn’t a mixture that sounds like it should work to me, but then again, I’m not generally all that keen on raffia shoes no matter what they’re paired with, so that’s possibly just my own bias talking.  Despite that, however, I actually really like these Olivia Morris peep toes, which mix a raffia heel with a black patent toe and strap.

It’s the over-sized buckle that really sets these shoes apart, and the two-tone uppers help, too. They’re just a little bit out of place at this time of year, but could be worth tucking away for a summer party. Get them at The Outnet, where they’re £192.50.

guess-red-peep-toesYes, I’m obsessed with red shoes. No, I can’t seem to stop it. These ones are by Guess, and are $106.99. They do come in other colours but there’s something about red suede that says “winter” and “luxury” to me, and while the peep toe means these aren’t a traditional winter shoe, the ongoing trend for opaque tights with peep toes could work here – or you could save them for evening wear.

Alexander McQueen red buckle ankle boots

alexnader-mcqueen-red-ankle

Alexander McQueen is fast becoming one of my very favourite boot makers. In fact, it’s probably a good thing for me that his shoes tend to be too expensive to even contemplate, or I’d have bankrupted myself by now. (I’d have a fantastic collection of boots to show for it, though.)

These red ankle boots have everything I like to see in a boot: a great colour, a high heel, a concealed platform, a couple of buckles to toughen them up a bit… Oh, and a $1,095 price tag. Prohibitively expensive for me, then, but if that seems perfectly affordable to you, you can buy them from the Alexander McQueen website.

I have some serious issues with Balmain. It’s not that i don’t like their designs, because I frequently do: it’s simply that everything they make is so horribly, horribly expensive. Seriously, I know they’re a high-end design house; I realise their products are “aspirational”, but Balmain, more than most other labels, seem to feel they have a licence to print money, purely by virtue of putting their name on something.

With that mini-rant over, I present these five-buckle boots, which, admittedly, are rather lovely, and actually rather cheaper than many Balmain creations, at “just” £1,160? Ah, maybe I’m just bitter!
