B Brian Atwood Fontanne metallic platform pumps

Who says you can’t mix metallics?

Well, quite a few people, actually, if the comments I receive on some of my blogs are anything to go by: we may be happy to combine red and pink, navy and black, or all kinds of other “forbidden” colour combinations, but some people do still seem to baulk at the idea of mixed metallics – especially in jewellery. What about footwear, though? Well,  I think these B Brian Atwood pumps are the proof that it can be done – and to stunning effect, too.

These have a gold upper with a silver heel and platform, and a slice of bronze, just for good measure. The shape is pretty close to perfect, too, and while I’d probably like them even more with a slightly smaller platform, the fact that this one is so beautifully done makes me love it, too.

These are from the B Brian Atwood diffusion line, which I’ve featured a few times recently, so it’s fair to say I’m a fan! They’re $350 and you can click here to buy them at Shopbop.

Most of the brightly coloured shoes I show you here tend to have suede uppers, which are beautiful, but not exactly the most practical, especially if you find yourself dealing with wet weather on a regular basis.

It was refreshing, then, to see these B Brian Atwood slingbacks pop up at Shopbop then, with a croc-embossed leather upper, and in my very favourite shade. Now, I still wouldn’t recommend wearing these in the pouring rain, of course, but they should be at least a little more hard-wearing than suede, without compromising any of the impact of the colour.

I think the embossed upper creates a really interesting effect with these, don’t you?

Here’s a good example of a shoe which looks much better when worn than it does in the product photo. These shoes looked pretty cute on the Brian Atwood website:

brian atwood alba Shoeperstar: Zoe Saldana in Brian Atwood pink Alba platform peep toesbut personally, I think they look even nicer on Zoe Saldana in the image above: the pink suede just looks brighter, bolder, and far more appealing, somehow.

Zoe wore these to the premiere of Machine Gun Preacher in L.A. this week. What do you think of them?

Brian Atwood ‘Bronski’ studded suede thigh boots

How do you make a plain pair of black thigh-high boots stand out?

Well, to be honest, I don’t think you really need to try to make them stand out: they have a way of doing that all by themselves. If you really want to give them that little something extra, though, this would be the way to do it:

brian atwood spike heel boots Brian Atwood Bronski studded suede thigh bootsYup, those be spikes. Big ones. I couldn’t love them any more if I tried, because when I looked at the smaller photo, I thought they were crystals, and I was a bit “meh”, about the idea. Spikes, though? Spikes are sometimes the way to a Shoeper heart, and this would appear to be one of those times.

They’re not the way to a Shoeper Wallet, unfortunately, at £1285, but if that sounds fine to you, click here to buy a pair!

Now, I’m not saying I’d pay £548 for these shoes.  Of course not. But if they were to knock the five off that figure, say…

OK, I’ll just come clean: these shoes are appearing here for no other reason than that I love the colour, love peep toes, love Brian Atwood… that’s actually three reasons, isn’t it? Three reasons to love them, 548 reasons not to buy them. Such is the sad life of a shoeperhero, readers!

(If you have 548 reasons TO buy them, you can click here to do it.)

As soon as I’ve hit “publish” on this post, I’m switching off the computer to go and enjoy the Easter long weekend, so I thought I’d leave you with the most Easter-appropriate pair of shoes I could find.

Oh, who am I kidding? These Brian Atwood sandals don’t really say “Easter” at all, do they? I just wanted to show you them. (And while I’m in the mood for confessing, I won’t actually be switching the computer off, either. As if I’d be able to survive for four whole days without access to the Internet! I LIVE on the Internet!) I’ve added in some chocolate eggs, just to make up for it. They don’t come free with the shoes, but with these shoes on your feet, who’s going to be thinking about chocolate eggs, anyway? (Me, actually. I’m always thinking about chocolate eggs, though).

Anyway, the shoes are by Brian Atwood, and are a whopping £2870 from here. And, with that, I’d like to wish a very happy holiday to anyone who has some time off this weekend: I’ll see you all on Shoesday!
