Red canvas ballerina pumps from Accessorize

red flats accessorize Red canvas ballerina pumps from AccessorizeWhen it comes to packing for summer holidays, I always try to do the whole “capsule wardrobe” thing. I always fail miserably at this, and end up having to wear all my clothes on the way home because I’ve packed so much – and bought so much – that I’m waaaay over my luggage, but at least the thought is there.

Because of my well-documented love of the nautical look, my chosen colours for this so-called “capsule” wardrobe of mine are always red, blue and white. (And, er, green. Also: black.) Which is why these Accessorize shoes went onto my summer wish list as soon as I laid eyes on them. Not only will they fit in perfectly with the rest of the wardrobe, they’re also as light as only a pair of canvas flats can be, AND they’re only £20.

Now I just need to find room for all of the 20 million other items I want to try and fit into my suitcase…

Nina ‘Electra’ peep-toe d’orsay pumps with bow

nina electra shoes Nina Electra peep toe dorsay pumps with bowThese shoes are available in no less than 11 different colours, so if you’re not keen on green, it’s well worth visiting the Nina website to see the rest of the range (I’m quite keen on the bright blue version, but every one’s a winner, to be honest). There are, of course, no prizes for guessing why I like these shoes: if I had to find fault with them, I’d probably say I could live without the ankle strap (I could almost always say that about ankle straps), but I could live with it, too, and it’s delicate enough not to draw too much attention to the ankle area.

So: gorgeous green colour, cute little bow, slender stiletto – what’s not to like? These are $92.95 and you can buy a pair here.

D&G Dolce & Gabbana Metallic Block Heel Shoes

Yes, it’s another bow-front court shoe, but the bow in this case is just a little bit different. The actual shape of these shoes is a tad matronly for me (there’s something about a chunky heel and rounded toe that always makes me think of the Queen, although I doubt she’d wear shoes this high!), but I do love the colour mix, which is dressy, but not so much that you’d be forced to save them for special occasions.

    These are £250 from My-Wardrobe.

Peep toe bow platform shoes from River Island

You could tell just from the headline that I was going to like these shoes, couldn’t you? Well, you were right, I do. They come in four different colours, but for reasons I can’t even begin to explain, I’m going through a bit of a “pink” phase at the moment (this is strange to me, because I’ve never really been a “pink” girl), so these are the two that appeal most to me. My favourites are the pair on the right, which are just really fresh, and fun and spring-link, and not quite as “River Island Barbie” as the pair on the left, which also have the dreaded metal heel. I think I spy a stripey insole, too: that makes me happy.

These are £59.99. Get them here.

Dune ‘Melanie’ black and white bow peep toes

These shoes are also available in both silver and gold, but it’s this black and white version that appeals to me most: partly because I’m a sucker for this particular combination, but also because I can imagine wearing these in the daytime, while the other two colours are just a little bit too disco-tastic to get away with in my daily life!

I think these would look fantastic with a pencil skirt and tailored top, but they’d be equally fabulous dressed down with a pair of black skinny jeans. It just so happens that I have all of those items currently residing in my closet, so onto the Shoeper Wish List these go! If you want to add them to yours too (or just buy them and to hell with the “wishing”!), they’re £70, and you can get them here.

Karen Millen navy sequin bow shoes

karen millen sequin bow sho Karen Millen navy sequin bow shoesSo, earlier this year, I won a competition (I know!) and the prize was a Karen Millen gift card. Which I still haven’t used, because, in keeping with the premise behind my Shoe Challenge, and also a similar kind of wardrobe challenge I’ve been doing for the past few months, I thought the sensible thing to do would be to resist the lure of the beautiful eveningwear currently available on the website, and wait until something came along that I’d actually get the chance to wear.

    Then this dress appeared:

graphic sequin dress Karen Millen navy sequin bow shoes

This dress was hard to resist. It was very, very hard. I may even have wept, a little. But, “Shoeper,” I told myself, “Be strong! Resist the lure of the dress, because you know perfectly well that unless your life changes dramatically at some point in the next few months, and you suddenly become the kind of person who goes to glamorous parties every night of the week, you will never, ever wear it. And even although it wouldn’t actually cost you anything, it would still be a waste. Also: as soon as you spend the credit on a dress you’ll never wear, you just KNOW a dress you WOULD wear will come along, and you won’t be able to afford it because you used up your gift card. So step away from the screen, and leave the poor thing alone.”

So I did. And then, two days later? Along came the matching shoes. Oh, THE SHOES! So pretty! So sparkly! So totally the kind of thing I love! But… navy. And also: dressy. So very, very dressy. Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE navy. For day wear, I’m obsessed with navy. I’d be obsessed with it for evening wear too, except I never buy evening wear any more, on account of the whole “never wearing it” scenario outlined above. And as gorgeous as they are, the dressy nature of these shoes would make them really difficult for me to incorporate into the challenge, sadly, which means one of you guys will have to step up to the plate and buy them, just so I can enjoy them vicariously through you. Any volunteers?

Timeless sequin bow shoes from Oli

sequin bow shoes Timeless sequin bow shoes from OliRemember Kurt Geiger’s ‘Dolly’ shoes? The ones with the sequins? And the BOW? They were gorgeous, but they were also £100, and, all too soon, they were sold out.

These shoes from Oli, however, are only £25, and while, OK, they do look less expensive/fabulous than the KG versions, they’re in exactly the same style, and won’t be as hard on the credit card. With pay-day still feeling very far away right now, that has to be a good thing…
