ShoeperStar: Sarah Michelle Gellar in B Brian Atwood ‘Blayne’ pumps

It’s a little bit of a shame (for us, although obviously not for her) that Sarah Michelle Gellar is walking towards the camera, rather than away from it, in this photo, because the back of this shoe is where all the action is. Or where all of the gold is, anyway.

These are B Brian Atwood‘s ‘Blayne’ pumps, which come with a black suede upper and gold leather heels. I feel like I’ve been a bit unfair to the front by focusing so much on that heel, so here are a couple more views for you:

Black pumps are so easily dismissed as “boring”, but sometimes all it takes is to see someone actually wearing them to change your mind: I must have seen these dozens of times on Shopbop, but this is the first time I’ve really stopped to look at them, and all because I finally got to see someone wearing them!

Jimmy Choo black and silver suede sandals

Untitled 1 Jimmy Choo black and silver suede sandals

Every time I look at these Jimmy Choo sandals, I find myself wanting to say “hubba hubba”. Which is honestly weird for me, because if you knew me in real life, you’d know that I NEVER say “hubba hubba”.

Apparently I do now, though, because these shoes? Fabulous. Also, expensive. We’re talking £724, here. Worth it? Well, I’ll let you decide…

Holly Willoughby ‘Ike’ Bow Court Shoes

black bow court shoes Holly Willoughby Ike Bow Court Shoes

As you may have gathered from my recent posts about them, I’ve been spending a bit of time browsing the Very.co.uk website this month, and wondering why it is that I always seem to forget about it when I’m looking for interesting shoes or clothes to blog about? The shoes shown above aren’t the most interesting pair in the world – even I sometimes think a shoe can have too many bows for its own good – but they are only £24 in the sale, so I thought I’d show you them anyway (even although you may well resent me for it when you discover that there aren’t a lot of sizes left: sorry.)

These are from Very’s Holly Willoughby range, and you can click here to buy them. Also from the Holly Willoughby range, and completely unrelated to the world of shoes, is this dress:

I know a lot of people hate grey, but l’m not one of them! This is £39 here.

Friday Fix: Christian Louboutin Veneneuse 120mm

christian louboutin veneneuse Friday Fix: Christian Louboutin Veneneuse 120mm

For this week’s Friday Fix, I’ve gone for the most unusual shoes on the Louboutin site, as opposed to the most beautiful ones. These are called Veneneuse, and they take the basic Pigalle shape, and add on… well, what looks a lot like some strange kind of fungi to me. And now that I’ve thought that, I just can’t un-see it. Sorry, Loubie.

What do you think? Too much, or just enough? They’re $1,195: click here to buy them.

Cinti ‘Skyvo’ black pumps with tulle ribbon

I’m having difficulty knowing exactly how to describe these shoes to you. See, they’re basically a pair of standard, suede pumps, but then they have this kind of net… you know what? It’s going to be much easier to just show you, isn’t it?

black suede pumps Cinti Skyvo black pumps with tulle ribbonThere you go.

It’s an interesting effect, and a fairly unusual one, too. I think it helps “pretty up” (Yes, it IS a phrase. Because I said so.) what would otherwise be an unremakable shoe, and gives it a much dressier feel. Then again, you could also argue that the netting around the heel makes it look a bit like it’s just been captured by a hunter. A shoe hunter. God, there should BE shoe hunters, shouldn’t there? I could be one! In addition to my shoeperhero duties, obviously. But I digress…

These are by Cinti and they’re £89 at Spartoo. What do you think of them?

Badgley Mischka black ‘Sail’ bow peep toes

I couldn’t resist showing you another pair of shoes from one of my favourite brands, today: Badgley Mischka. These are called ‘Sail’, and they’re the proof that “simple” doesn’t have to mean “boring”, and that yes, there ARE ways to make the good old bow-on-the-toe look just a little bit different! This bow is further forward than most, and is sitting at a slight angle, which helps to make them a little more interesting.

After years of buying bright colours, I’m currently finding myself obsessed with black shoes right now, so I love these, but they’re also rather nice in the taupe shade which is also available. Wouldn’t a bright red or blue be stunning, though?

These are $225: click here to buy them.

Iron Fist ‘Gold Star’ black skull print pumps

iron first skull print Iron Fist Gold Star black skull print pumps I know I have some big Iron Fist fans among my readers, so I thought those of you who love the brand, and their gothic-style prints might like these black skull print pumps. And hey, it IS the month of Halloween, after all, and I guess if you don’t want to get dressed up for it, these would be an easy way to give a nod to “scary” style AND get to buy some new shoes into the bargain!

As for me, skull print isn’t generally my thing (I make an exception for Alexander McQueen, but that’s about it), but I do love the way Iron Fist manage to make their skulls almost “pretty” by a clever use of studs. At first glance, it would be fairly easy to think this was just a random pattern, and I quite like the idea of the print only really revealing itself to those who take a closer look!

Quite apart from all of that, these make for an interesting twist on the classic black pumps, which are always a handy addition to the shoe shelves! These shoes are £79 at Spartoo: click here to buy them.

The classic black pump is one of the hardest shoes to get right. It shouldn’t really be this way. sure, they’re rarely the most interesting shoes in the world, but most of us will buy a pair at SOME point in our lives (I just totally made that “fact” up, by the way, but I’m willing to bet it’s true), so you’d think you’d be able to walk into just about any shoe store and find the perfect black pumps, just waiting for you, wouldn’t you?

It’s not so, though. In fact, the search for the PBP (Perfect Black Pumps) can be a long and hard one, fraught with peril, but luckily I’m here to make it a little easier on you by showing you these ‘Colette’ pumps from Schuh, which come with a cute little cameo brooch on the front.

Now, I adore these shoes. I love cameo brooches on anything, really, but attach one to a shoe and you get a particularly pleasing, vintage kind of look which is also a bit decadent, somehow. These also have a super-sexy arch, a nice, curvy heel, and are reasonably priced at £60.

“So, why aren’t you buying them, Shoeperwoman?” I hear you cry. Well, there’s just one problem: they’re too high. Yes, you read that right. And no, they’re not too high in the sense that I wouldn’t be able to walk in them, or don’t like the look of them: very much the contrary, in fact! But right now, I’m actually in the market for a slightly lower pair of black pumps: I have a couple of dresses and pairs of trousers which just don’t look quite right with platforms or very high heels, so while I may well buy the ‘Colette’ pumps one of these days, for now it’s actually these shoes which have gone onto my Wish List:

Now, I know: these aren’t nearly as pretty or interesting, but it just so happens that they’re almost exactly what I’m looking for at the moment: a simple black pump with a pointed (but not too pointed) toe, and no platform. And, having tried them on in store this week, I can confirm that they’re actually much nicer in real life than they are in the photo, and the toe really isn’t as pointed as the angle makes it look.

I can tell you’re not convinced, though, so here’s the bright blue version, which I also love:
