Ah, the cap-toe boot: such a classic, winter style, and I love the way Balmain have updated it here without doing anything to spoil its simple appeal. The update takes two main forms: the uppers are tan rather than the more usual white or cream, and there’s a great big bow on the heel. I think these would be perfect with something like black jeans, and they’re the kind of boots that will never go out of style: good job, too, given that they’re £529.
The Red Herring version is even less expensive than the Dottie P one: these are just £28, and look like they have a smaller heel than the originals, although that could just be the angle of the photo.
They’re not exactly the same as the Balmain zipper boots Lindsay Lohan wore last week, and at $198, they’re not exactly “budget” offerings either, but they’re a helluva lot cheaper than the originals, which retail for £1,500.
These boots are by Oak, and have suede uppers with a total of five zips on each boots. You can buy them here.
Aha! I knew it was only a matter of time before we started to see celebrities in Balmain’s suede zippered ankle boots. I had my money on Rihanna, but but here’s Lindsay Lohan wearing them instead, with a short skirt and what looks like a Motel shirt to me, although I can’t be totally sure.
What do you think: are you a fan of this look? If so, you’ll need £1,500 to buy them, and you can do so at Net-a-Porter.
I complain a lot about Balmain’s – quite frankly ridiculous – pricing on some items, but there’s no doubt in my mind that they’ve been responsible for one or two of the most stunning pairs of shoes this season. Are these in that category? Well, possibly: they have studs AND bows, which means they’re more or less guaranteed to find favour with me at the moment so, you know, who cares that they’re £564?
Oh yeah, I do. They’re around £500 over budget for me at the moment, but if you feel like splashing out, you can buy them at Colette.
I have some serious issues with Balmain. It’s not that i don’t like their designs, because I frequently do: it’s simply that everything they make is so horribly, horribly expensive. Seriously, I know they’re a high-end design house; I realise their products are “aspirational”, but Balmain, more than most other labels, seem to feel they have a licence to print money, purely by virtue of putting their name on something.
With that mini-rant over, I present these five-buckle boots, which, admittedly, are rather lovely, and actually rather cheaper than many Balmain creations, at “just” £1,160? Ah, maybe I’m just bitter!
Especially for those of you who share my love of sparkly things with bows on them, I present one of the sparkliest, bow-bedecked things ever.
They’re Balmain’s crystal bow pumps, and they belong firmly in the “I’ve no idea where I’d wear them, but I’d love to give it a shot” files, which is to say that they’re just a little bit ostentatious. The shape is just about perfect, though, and can you imagine them underneath disco lights? Just be careful you don’t blind someone…
