I’ve featured lots of different ballet flats over the years, but I think these ones from Miss Selfridge have to be one of the more literal interpretations of the look. They combine a pink, suede-effect upper with a ribbon tie, designed to be criss-crossed around the ankles, ballerina style. These are super-sweet, and really appeal to the part of me which still wants to be a dancer when she grows up (Probably shouldn’t have given up those ballet classes then, huh, Shoeperwoman? Now you will never dance Swan Lake!), although I have a feeling that wearing them may result in a few too many people asking you if you’re on your way to dance class.
To avoid those questions, you can simply wear these with jeans or something similarly casual. Me, I’d be much too tempted to wear them with a a wrapover cardigan, a pair of black skinny jeans and my hair in a bun…
Want a pair? They’re £18, and you can click here to buy them.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been on the lookout for a pair of simple, pink ballet flats. As it turns out, however, I’m absolutely spoiled for choice, because there’s definitely no shortage of this style around at the moment, and the good news is that they’re all super-affordable, too. Here are some of my favourites:
Yesterday I said I wanted to get some pretty new ballet flats, and today I think I might have found the perfect pair from my favourite store to walk into for a “quick browse”, and walk out of with a significantly lighter wallet: Accessorize.
I adore the little double-bows on the front of these shoes: they’re just too cute, and the nude colour is exactly what I’m looking for, too. Sadly, they’re already sold out in my size online, so I may need to visit the store in person to see if they have any left. If you want to try your luck online, meanwhile, these are £25 and you can click here to buy them.
A classic ballet shoe… with a high, stiletto heel! I guess these would be the perfect way to indulge all of those ballerina fantasies (I can’t have been the only little girl who dreamt of being a ballerina when she grew up?) without actually looking like you’re on your way to dance class.
I’ve seen lots of people wearing Topshop’s flat ballet shoes, which I featured a few weeks ago (New Look are also currently doing a much less expensive version, but they do look less expensive in real life), and I’m really loving the look of them: very chic when worn with a simple pair of jeans and sweater, and I’m sure the heeled versions will look just as good.
These are £40: click here to buy them from Miss Selfridge.
Remember the heart-front peep toes from Accessorize which I showed you earlier this year? Well, here are the closed toe version, just in time for winter! I love these shoes: they’re practical, but they also have a whimsical feel to them, and while the navy and red colour mix would probably be my preference, I think the black and white versions could be fantastic with a similarly monochrome outfit: or with anything else, really!
Ballet flats in the true sense of the phrase! Well, almost: I saw these in-store a couple of weeks ago, and can confirm that they have a rigid sole, rather than the soft one of a true ballet shoe, but they still look exactly like the shoes I used to wear to my ballet classes as a little girl, and that, of course, is the whole point here.
The “ballet-shoes-as-everyday-wear” look has uncomfortable Amy Winehouse associations for many of us, but funnily enough, no sooner had I finished looking at them in my local Topshop than I turned around to leave the store… and almost walked straight into a fellow shopper who was wearing a pair, with a pair of jeans and sweater. And actually, she looked fabulous: there was just something very chic about the simplicity of the look, and it made me realise that, actually, these shoes would go with everything, and while pale pink may not be the most practical shade ever for the British winter, at least these shoes are priced accordingly at £16, unlike the last pair of Topshop flats I showed you, which were a scary £75!
What do you think of them? (Click here if you want to buy them.)
Oasis is a store I tend to associate with great dresses rather than fabulous footwear, but as I was looking at those dresses this week (and trying my hardest not to be tempted by them), I kept finding myself distracted by the brand’s collection of ballet flats instead.
All of the styles shown above are £40 or under, and all come with some kind of extravagant toe embellishment, be it diamante, triple bows or zip-trimmed flowers, and as I scrolled through the website, I kept finding myself thinking, “I like these best. No, these! No! Has to be these!”
I still haven’t decided which I like best: if you can, or if you just want to see what else is on offer, take a look at the Oasis website.
