Azzedine Alaïa feather embellished shoes

Well, these are… different… aren’t they? I mean, it’s not every day you get to see a shoe that’s all dressed up in a feather headdress, is it?

I’m a little bit confused by these because I just can’t imagine how they could possibly be flattering: all those feathers are going to draw the eye right to the calves, and I know that, for many of us, that’s not an area we particularly want to emphasise.

Azzedine Alaïa black ruffle cuff suede sandals

Is anyone else just itching to grab a pair of scissors and snip off that cuff? Just me? OK, well, moving on…

These black suede sandals are by Azzedine Alaïa, and as you can see, this look is all about the ankle. That huge, ruffled cuff will simultaneously hide your ankles AND draw attention to them, and if you’re thinking that’s an odd kind of combination, well, you’re probably right. Oh, and just in case you thought the ruffles weren’t ostentatious enough, the frills are edged with little floral-shaped sequins, which you’ll need to visit Far Fetch to zoom in and see.

I think shoes which emphasise the ankles in this kind of way can be rather difficult to wear, so I’m curious to know what you all think of these ones. If you love them, click here to buy a pair, but be prepared to part with £1,299: ouch!

Shoeperwoman to the Rescue: Jennifer Aniston’s Azzedine Alaia strappy sandals

You can’t see them too well in this photo, but I think these are a pair of patent Azzedine Alaia sandals, which Jennifer wears fairly often – I’ve attached some photos of her wearing them at another event under the jump. Unfortunately, although I can tell you who made them, I’m afraid I can’t come to the rescue with a stockist, because these are a couple of seasons old now. If you’re looking for these exact shoes, I think your best bet would be eBay, but an alternative could be something like Lauren Jones’ ‘Franci’ sandals, which have a similar shape and colour, and are available at Endless.com:

Azzedine Alaia python and shell wedge shoes

You can always rely on Azzedine Alaia to come up with something a little bit different, and these raffia and wedge shoes definitely fall into that category, although to me they look more like some kind of ancient artefact (from the, er, Rafia Age) than actually footwear. They’re also £ 1339.00, which is… a lot. Yes, a lot.

From this you’ll have gathered that I’m not going to be saving up my pennies to buy a pair of these. I think they’ll probably fall into the “love it or hate it” category (or maybe just the “hate it” category, who knows?). If you’re feeling the raffia love, though, you can buy these here.
