    ASOS have been really into quirky prints lately. It’s not something that’s gone down particularly well with the Shoeper audience, I must say, but I’m showing you these ‘Pelican’ shoes anyway because, well, it’s not often I get to feature shoes featuring a crazy cat lady, is it?

    These shoes actually really confused me at first. I read the name “Pelican”, and naturally expected to see pelicans. Then I read the description “cat print”, and expected to see cats… which I couldn’t, at first, because the cat is actually hiding behind its owner’s head:

    I’ve been seriously spoilt for choice this year when it comes to green shoes. I feel like I’ve spent my whole life looking for them, and then this year here they all are at the same time: like the buses, I guess.

    The latest pair of green goddesses to cross my radar are these ‘Pisa’ slingbacks, from ASOS. These are in a gorgeous, two-toned upper, combining bright, grass-green on the upper, with a darker shade on the heel and slingback. Speaking of the heel, that slight flare to it reminds me a bit of some of the styles Miu Miu have released this year, and gives it a more up-to-date feel than might have been the case with a straighter heel.

    These are a step away from my usual style, and could run the risk of looking a little bit costumey if you weren’t careful, but I’m rather digging (for some reason I feel that’s the right word for these) the 60s vibe of these, with their two-tone uppers and block heels. And despite what I just said about looking too costumey, I’d be so tempted to wear these with an A-line mini skirt, pale lips and backcombed hair, wouldn’t you?

    Of course, if you don’t want to look like a visitor from 1966, any kind of monochrome outfit will work well with these, and they’re the kind of footwear that will turn a simple look into a special one.

    It’s been a while since our last round of “Heroes or Villains”, so what better way to pass a hump-day? Other than actual shoe shopping, obviously? I can’t think of one, so without further ado, let us decide whether these ‘Pickle’ Mary Janes from ASOS are Shoeperheroes or Shoepervillains!

    These shoes have a classic, Mary Jane shape, but come with an unusually high vamp,  a thicker-than-usual heel, and a top-to-toe heart print. They’re the kind of shoes which are either unbearably cute or, well, just plain unbearable, depending on your point of view. Are they cuter-than-cute, though, or are they just sickeningly twee? That’s where you come in…

    As for me, well, I always struggle a little with Mary Janes in general, because I think that unless the designer is very careful to give them a “grown up” feel, they can look very childish – especially with the addition of a cutesy print. The Mary Janes I like most tend to place the strap down towards the toe, as opposed to across the base of the foot, like these ones, and I think its the shape, rather than the print, which may be the downfall of these. Let’s find out, though:

    Well, folks, I can ignore it no longer: every day now, I get a barrage of press releases, all helpfully informing me that Christmas will take place on December 25th, just like every year, and that I better start obsessing over it. They say if you can’t beat ‘em, you may as well join ‘em, and while I know I’ll probably lose interest in the hysteria by lunchtime (I’ve always felt Christmas should be restricted to December only, personally, but that’s just me…), for now I thought I’d show you a pair of shoes that look exactly like a Christmas gift. Well, OK, not exactly like one – gifts only tend to look like shoes if you’re very lucky – but the shape of the pink bow atop these ‘Hysterical’ sandals by ASOS does remind me of the type of bow found on gifts at thus time of year, and the bright colours are rather festive too.

    OK, that’s it, I’ve had enough.I thought I was, like, totally down with the whole colourblocking thing, I really did. I mean, I was even inspired to try some colour combinations of my own which I’d preciously never even dreamed of, and for me, that was kind of a Big Deal.

    Today, though, I think I’ve discovered where my limit is with this trend, and it’s here, with the combination of orange, green and blue:

    I like all of these colours individually, but together they hurt my eyes. And honestly, an orange shoe with a green embellishment at this time of year is just BEGGING to be compared to a pumpkin, isn’t it?

    All of that said, I do like the other two options for these Hush sandals from ASOS: black and pink and cream and silver are combinations that it’s hard to go wrong with, and I also like the contrast of the sequined straps on each shoe. I’ll now surprise you by saying I don’t love the shape of the bow on these, although I don’t hate it either.

    asos handfull shoes Shoe Deja Vu: ASOS HANDFULL Vs Jessica Simpson  I spotted these shoes at ASOS last week, and almost passed them by, thinking I’d already written about them. I haven’t, though: the shoes I was thinking of were these ones, by Jessica Simpson:

In fact, they’re SO identical that I spent a few minutes convinced that ASOS must have started stocking Jessica Simpson shoes, and just forgotten to put the brand name on the listing, but nope: they don’t stock Jessica Simpson, and these are listed simply as “ASOS Handfull”. What’s more, they retail for £75, which is actually MORE than the Jessica Simpson shoes, which work out at £56, at the current exchange rate.

    Of course, I can’t say for sure which of these shoes came first (and actually, the more I look at them, the more I become convinced that they’re BOTH inspired by a designer shoe, which escapes me for the moment), but either way, I reckon someone’s taken their inspiration just a little too literally here, no?

    ASOS ‘Caramel’ knee high suede boots

    I’ve mentioned before here that it takes quite a lot to get me excited about a pair of boots. Well, here’s a great example of what does it: these ASOS knee-highs may not have the bright colour or dramatic shape of some of the boots I’ve lusted over this year, but they don’t need to, because they’re perfect just the way they are!

    With the slightly 70s feel suggested by the high platform, and the gorgeous brown suede, these have a wonderfully Autumnal feel to me: in fact, I have a brown tweed jacket that’s just begging to be worn with them! I’d add a floppy felt hat to finish off the look, and while a maxi skirt also sounds tempting, the fact that maxi skirts make me look like I’m in a costume drama would probably lead me towards an A-line instead. Possibly in cord, or some other cosy fabric.

    Now that I’ve created a whole (imaginary) outfit around these, it really seems a shame not to buy them. I’ve sworn off shoe shopping at least until the end of the month, though, so I’ll simply tell you to click here if you want to buy them instead.
