Lanvin plexi and leather ankle strap wedges

lanvin plexi wedge shoes Lanvin plexi and leather ankle strap wedgesThe perfect shoes for those of you who love the look of stilettos, but have trouble balancing in them! Well, OK, maybe not quite “perfect” - I know I for one could happily live without that chunky ankle strap, but these will at least be a little easier to walk in that their stiletto sisters.

Now, I know many of you have a strong aversion to clear plastic on shoes (and I’m with you on that), but this is done so subtly I didn’t even notice the plexi insert at first, and wondered why these were being described as “wedges”.

It’s a little more visible from the back, but of course, anyone who’s taken the time to look closely at your shoes will already have realised that the “stiletto” couldn’t possibly be holding you up on its own!

These are £765 – click here to buy them.

Miss N Silver Ankle Bow Sandals from Next

I had to do a double-take when I saw the price of these shoes. £26? I know Next isn’t the most expensive brand out there, but £26 seems particularly bargainous. As you’d probably expect for that price, these aren’t leather, but I love the cracked leather-effect uppers, which stop the silver colour being too shiny. Although I like bows, I tend not to like more than one of them on the same shoe, but I think I could probably be tempted by these little cuties, especially when they’re so affordable.

If you’re prepared to let them tempt you, too, you can buy them here.

Jimmy Choo embellished ankle-wrap sandals

We’ve been talking a lot recently about the on ongoing trend for delicate sandals with huge ankle straps, and here’s another example of that look, courtesy of Jimmy Choo.

These shoes have a particularly outsized ankle, which is embellished with studded flower details, plus cutouts Despite the amount of leather around the ankle, I think these still manage to look fairly delicate – in the photo, at least. Whether they’ll continue to look delicate when they’re wrapped around your ankles is another matter altogether. If you’d like to find out, they’re £915 at Saks.

Marni suede platforms with bow and jewel detail

Going by the toe alone, I kind of loved these Marni pumps. Well, you have to admit, the toes may as well have “Oh, hai, Shoeperwoman!” printed on them, no? They also have that rather nice “Court of Marie Antoinette” look about them, which I’ve been liking recently.

But then I looked at them from the side:

Hmmm. Not so pretty now, are they? The platform is too clumsy, the ankle strap looks out of place… With no platform (or a smaller one, that fitted the sole better) and a closed back, they could’ve been wonderful. As they are, however, my (ntirely fictional) £520 is safe. If yours isn’t, these are available from Browns.

Shoe Kryptonite: Peep toe shoes with ankle fastening by Rene Caovilla

Rene Caovilla boudoir shoes Shoe Kryptonite: Peep toe shoes with ankle fastening by Rene Caovilla

I’ve criticised shoes in the past for reminding me too much of lingerie. These Rene Caovilla sandals ALSO make me think of lingerie, but this time in a good way. A really good way. In fact, they’re just delicious, aren’t they? They have a real “boudoir” feel to them: if I owned them I think I’d want to wear them around the house , paired with a silk negligee and a glass of chilled champagne. Decadent, feminine and, well, just sex-on-a-stiletto, basically, the 790 price tag will unfortunately prevent that little scenario ever being played out Chez Shoeper, but if you think they’re worth it, you can buy them here.

Two-tone buckle court shoes from Barratts

barratts two tone shoes Two tone buckle court shoes from BarrattsYes, it’s that shade of blue we’ve been seeing so much of lately! This time it’s in two different fabrics – a mock suede and a mock snake – and comes with an ankle strap and rounded toe. Although this colour has been everywhere for the past few weeks, if not months, I still haven’t got bored of it yet, and the brightness of the shade will be particularly welcome on those dark winter days.

These are just £30, and they’re available from Barratts.

Faith ‘Cabulous’ platform peep toes

faith red peep toes Faith Cabulous platform peep toesI love the way Faith like to give all of their shoes names starting with the same letter. At the moment they’re on ‘C’, so these shoes are ‘Cabulous’ rather than ‘Fabulous’. And actually, they are rather fabulous – and very reminiscent of YSL’s recent offerings, too. The red pair make me want to say “va-va-vroom”, as embarrassing at that would be, while the black version have just a little less sex appeal, but lots of shiny, patent style.

I’d choose the red any day, but of course, I would say that…

J. Renee’s ‘Brendall’ peep toe patent pumps

I’m not completely sold on the ankle strap. I mean, I could live without it. It looks like a bit of an afterthought to me, but then, I almost always have that reaction to ankle straps, so it could just be me.

Ankle straps aside, however, this is a nice little mid-price party shoe, and I love the red and black mix on the uppers. It’s also available in plain black and purple, and while both are nice, I think the red shoes this shoe to its best advantage, giving it a bit of a vintage look.

Although it’s a peep toe, the dark colours give it a somewhat wintery feel to it, which I guess would make it perfect for Christmas parties, although I can’t quite believe I’ve just typed the word “Christmas” in July. Gah.
