    Topshop Ashanti shearling ankle boots

I always think shearling-topped boots would make me look too much like Mrs Christmas, or – worse – a Christmas elf, to make them worth buying, but it’s so cold outside I could be convinced to overlook that. In fact, if these Ashanti boots from Topshop were to magically appear on my shoe shelves, I might even give a little “ho ho ho” of glee.

Of course, these have a shearling cuff, as opposed to a shearling lining, so they’ll be a little less warm than they actually look. Still, something about them really appeals to me right now, although it could just be the fact that the lower half of the boot is identical (in shape, if not in colour), to my Barley2 boots, which naturally makes me predisposed to like them.

If you like them too, they’re £95, they’re also available in black, and you can click here to buy yourself a pair.

    ASOS ‘Performer’ multi-buckle platform shoes

My first thought upon looking at these shoes? “Thank God they zip up the back!” Well, I can’t imagine wanting to sit and do up all those buckles first thing in the morning, can you?

Luckily, the buckles are just for show, and quite a show they make, too, with five gold buckles contrasting with the pale uppers and giving them a slightly military feel. They also have a 4.4″ heel and a 1″ covered platform, plus a rugged little rubber sole to make them easier to stay upright in on a frosty morning.

These are £45 and are also available in black: click here to buy them.

Red elastic side heeled ankle boots from Zara

By the time you read this post, I’ll be holidaying in The Land of Zara. I mean that literally – the Canary Islands are part of Spain, which is where the brand originates from – but I also mean it in the sense that there are actually more branches of Zara on the tiny island I’m visiting than there are in the whole of Scotland. This is potentially lethal for my bank account: Zara is one of my favourite stores anyway, but I started to like it even more when I came across these red stiletto ankle boots. Aren’t they just stunning?

The colour is obviously the stand-out feature here, but these would appeal to me in any colour, because they’re such a classic, yet sexy, kind of shape. Add a bright red upper and, well, I’ll just have to hope I can resist bringing them home with me… and if I do, there’s always online shopping!

I have absolutely no idea where someone would wear these boots – somehow ankle boots just don’t say “party” to me, but boots this embellished don’t say “casual” either – but they seemed to be begging to appear here, and so here they are!

What does everyone think of these? Too much, or just enough?

Moda in Pelle ‘Kenya’ green leather ankle boots

green ankle boots Moda in Pelle Kenya green leather ankle bootsA simple, sleek ankle boot which will fit under trousers but also look good with skirts and dresses is a wardrobe staple, as far as I’m concerned, and the fact that Moda in Pelle’s ‘Kenya’ is available in green, as well as in black and brown, just makes them even more perfect, no?

This is a very dark green, which could almost pass for black in some lights, so you should be able to wear them with many of the same colours you’d wear black boots with – or, of course, you could just go for the black ones themselves if that’s your preference. What can I say, green is my favourite colour…

Office ‘End of the Road’ leather military style ankle boots

I’m in two minds about these boots: I’ve always loved military style boots (as I may have mentioned once or twice or twenty times), but these are just a little too OTT - in fact, my instant reaction was that they looked a little like part of some kind of Halloween costume or something.

Still, there’s no denying that they stand out, and if you’re prepared to keep the rest of your outfit toned down, they could just work.

Green tartan ankle boots from ASOS

If you follow fashion at all, you’ll probably already know that tartan is currently being touted as one of this winter’s big trends. Is it just me, or does the fashion press seem to say that about tartan almost every winter?

Having grown up in Scotland, I tend to view tartan as almost “novelty” kind of fabric/print, and while I love the way Vivienne Westwood uses it, I’m less keen on it the rest of the time, and not sure at all whether I can get on board with the idea of wearing it on my feet, as in the case of these green tartan ankle boots from ASOS.

In their defence, this is a much less garish tartan than some, and it does have a very cosy, wintry feel to it.

    Versace metal-heeled leather ankle boots

I showed you the shoe version of these a few weeks ago, and wasn’t particularly taken with them. Because “fickle” is my middle name, though (Not literally: it’s “Louise”), I have to admit that the boots are somehow more appealing to me: perhaps just because my experience is that boots are much easier to walk in, because they give some extra support to the ankle, and let’s face it, with a heel/platform combo like this one, you’re going to need all the support you can get.

I think we need another photo in order to savour these fully:
