Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle boots

alexander mcqueen winged leather ankle boots Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle bootsThe shape of this boot isn’t new: I wrote about Alexander McQueen’s Pelle’ ankle boots back in May 2009, and the basic shape hasn’t changed since then. What is different, however, is the bronze stitching and hardware, and, of course, those embroidered wings on the side. I’m a bit of a sucker for wings on shoes, and I love these: I also have to admit that I’m slowly coming around to the idea of the peep-toe boot, perhaps because there are just so many of them around now that I’m tempted to think that sooner or later I’ll have to just give in and accept their existence. I still think that almost every peep toe boot I’ve ever seen would look better without the peep toe, although on these ones it does seem to work.

What do you think of them? They’re £705 at Net-a-Porter – click here to buy them.

Alexander McQueen snakeskin skull-embellished peep toes

alexander mcqueen skull peep toes Alexander McQueen snakeskin skull embellished peep toesWith the fashion world still mourning the loss of Alexander McQueen earlier this year, it’s good to know that the label at least still lives on. These snakeskin peep toes come with the characteristic skull detail on the peep toe, in a nice contrast to the sophisticated shape of the shoe itself:

These are also in direct contrast to the Oscar de la Renta shoes I showed you yesterday. Both snakeskin, both peep toes, but where one brand puts a delicate cluster of crystals on the toe, the other goes for a gold and diamante skull. These ones are definitely my favourites: if they’re yours, too, they’re £755 at Net-a-Porter.

alexander mcqueen Alexander McQueen found dead at his London home

There’s not much I can add to this story, especially given that the fact that the details are still coming out as I write this , but I was so shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Alexander McQueen today. What a loss, both to those who knew him personally, and to those who just loved his amazing shoes and other creations.

RIP Alexander McQueen: we’ll miss you.

    Alexander McQueen heart peep toes

alexander mcqueen heart pee Alexander McQueen heart peep toesThey’re not a new style, but I was actually quite surprised to realise that Alexander McQueen’s heart peep toes hadn’t yet appeared here, so here they are! This black patent and bright yellow version is currently available at Net-a-Porter, where they’re selling for £375. I much preferred the bright red version that was released earlier this year, but those are much harder to come by these days, so if you really want to see your toes peep through a heart (now there’s a strange image, if ever I heard one!) these could be your best bet!

Celebrity Shoes: Rihanna in Alexander McQueen’s dogtooth ankle boots

LFI LETTERMAN002 221 Celebrity Shoes: Rihanna in Alexander McQueens dogtooth ankle boots

These Alexander McQueen shoe boots fall firmly into that hated category of “Boots Pretending to be Shoes”, but, oddly enough, I don’t dislike them nearly as much as I dislike most other footwear of this genre. Perhaps the curvy shape is helping them out, but while I wouldn’t pay $1,045 for them (or, indeed, any other price), I wouldn’t hurl them into space, either.

Rihanna wore them earlier this week, arriving at the Late Night With David Letterman Show. This is actually a pretty tame outfit for Rihanna, but what do you think of it? And, more importantly, what do you think of the shoes? If you like them, they’re available direct from the Alexander McQueen website.

For any other designer, these would’ve been the type of shoes that were destined to appear on the runway, and on the runway only.

For Alexander McQueen, however, they’re the kind of shoes you sell for $1,165. And I bet some people will buy them at that price too. Which just goes to show, there’s no accounting for taste…

    Alexander McQueen sues Steve Madden

steve madden alexander mcqu Alexander McQueen sues Steve MaddenRemember this case of shoe deja vu? Well, it seems it was a step too far for Alexander McQueen, whose lawyers confirmed this week that the designer is taking legal action against Steve Madden for copyright theft. They say the only difference between the shoes is that McQueen’s signature skull zipper is missing from the Madden shoe – and McQueen isn’t happy about it.

I’ve always wondered how it is that Steve Madden gets away with such blatant copies of other designer’s shoes – maybe this is one case where he WON’T get away with it…
