Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Navy patent peep toe bow shoes from River Island

river island bow shoes Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Navy patent peep toe bow shoes from River Island

I spotted these shoes in River Island last week, and had a really hard time walking away and leaving them in the store. Ordinarily, the shiny gold platform on these would’ve put me off, but I found myself loving everything about them, and although this is a style River Island have released in a few different colour combinations this season (I showed you the pink versions here), my love of all things navy makes these my favourites.

These are £59.99, and if it wasn’t the week before pay day, I’d find them even harder to resist. If you can see no reason to resit them at all, however, you can pick up a pair at River Island.

I walked into River Island earlier this month and literally stopped in my tracks at the sight of these. I’d somehow managed to overlook them on the website – possibly because they looked much better in real life – but as soon as I spotted them, I was already mentally adding them to my Wish List. They’re £59.99, and in a style River Island have been doing a lot of this year- long may it continue, because they’re the kind of black peep toes I can imagine getting lots and lots of use out of!

Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Vivienne Westwood Anglomaia/Melissa Peach Lady Dragon Shoes

lady dragon shoes Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Vivienne Westwood Anglomaia/Melissa Peach Lady Dragon ShoesSo, I ordered the Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon shoes.

And the very next day, I sent them right back. I know, I still can’t quite believe it either. But quite apart from the fact that after my last little shopping excursion I’d vowed to buy no more shoes for the foreseeable future:

    a) They were too big for me. (The size down was out of stock, and I could tell it would’ve been too small, anyway. Woe!)

    b) In real life, the “peach” colour, which I’d hoped would be not too far off “nude”, was a lot more orangey than I was expecting it to be: it hasn’t really shown up properly in my photos either, but it was much more lurid than it looks here, and it made my feet look a really odd colour next to it.

Now, I could have exchanged them for a different colour (I really like the baby blue, for instance), but for once in my life I decided to do the sensible thing and just send them back. One thing I will say, though: I ordered the shoes from My-Wardrobe and was really impressed with the service. I placed my order on Friday morning and the shoes were with me early on Monday, having been trackable all the way. When I had to return them, they were also collected from my door free of charge, so there was no trip to the post office – always a bonus. (I hate the post office with a fiery passion).

There are a couple more photos under the jump: I’m still gutted these didn’t work out – I still love the shape of them, and although I wasn’t sold on the plastic (it stunk to high heaven, and Shoeperman thought it looked very cheap and a bit cartoonish), if Anglomania were to ever make a version of these in leather, say, I’d be ALL OVER THEM…

Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Orange bow front peep toes from Zara

zara peep toes Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Orange bow front peep toes from ZaraOrange wouldn’t normally be my first choice of shoe colour (although these actually looked much redder in real life than they do in the photos – in fact, they didn’t strike me as “orange” at all, so the camera may be lying a little here), but I had a total “Shopaholic” moment while I was trying these on.

If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll probably remember the scene where Becky Bloomwood spots a pair of Gucci boots on sale, manages to use ever ounce of strength she has to resist them, and puts them back down… only for another woman to grab them: at which point, of course, Becky realises that the boots are HERS, and that nothing will stop her buying them.

Well, pretty much the same thing happened with these. I saw them and loved them, but I was actually shopping for a pair of shorts for my holiday, and where on earth would I wear a pair of orange peep toes anyway, I told myself? They’d just sit there at the back of the wardrobe, never to see the light of day again. So I put back the single pair of size 4s they had – and another shopper instantly grabbed them and put them on, at which point I was forced to hover around the shoe section protectively, just praying for her to put them down so I could buy them.

I didn’t, though. And she did put them down, too. My powers of resistance are clearly better than I thought: first the Louboutins, then these.,. and I haven’t even told you about the two pairs of Dune shoes I could’ve bought for £50 in TK Maxx…

If you don’t want to resit, though, these were £39.99 from Zara – who, to my constant annoyance, don’t allow you to shop online, so you’ll have to look for them in-store.

Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Christian Louboutin Astraqueen studded shoe boots

christian louboutin astraqu Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Christian Louboutin Astraqueen studded shoe bootsI didn’t actually buy these beautiful Christian Louboutin ‘Astraqueen’ shoe boots, but let me tell you, I was sorely tempted … yes, even although summer has well and truly arrived and I’ve no need for any kind of boots, let alone ones with studs all over them! I always think now is the best time to buy boots, though, because now is when the best discounts kick in. These are past season, so they’d been reduced to £240, which, although still very expensive, is way less than they’d have cost full price. My brain likes to try and justify things in this way…

As with most Louboutins, they were beautifully made, as light as a feather, and felt really comfortable, despite the height of the heel. This was the display shoe, which was a UK 5 and therefore a little bit too big for me: I didn’t dare enquire if they had them in a 4,because if the answer had been “yes”, I’d have had to call for reinforcements – in the shape of Shoeperman – to come and drag me away from them.

(Sorry for the blurry phone pic, by the way – I was undercover at the time!)

Shoe Shopping with Shoeperwoman: Black suede studded platforms from New Look

new look studded courts Shoe Shopping with Shoeperwoman: Black suede studded platforms from New Look

I apologise in advance to anyone who really likes these shoes. These, you see, are  yet another example of The Ones That Got Away.

I spotted these on the New Look website a while back, you see, and although I liked them, I didn’t think they were “all that”. Then I spotted them in the store this weekend and realised that, actually? These shoes ARE all that – and a little bit more into the bargain. The suede is soft, the studs add a bit of interest, the shape of the heel is – and I’m sorry to say this, but there’s really no other word for it – fierce. They are, in fact, exactly the kind of black court shoe I’ve been looking for for months now.

So what’s the problem, I hear you ask?

Well, they only had two pairs left. And they were both size 3. I wear a size 4. Gah.

I did, naturally, try to cram my feet into the size 3s, Ugly Sister-style (hence the photos above), but even I was forced to concede that it just wasn’t going to work. I was not going to the ball. Sigh.

When I got home, I had a quick look on the website again, but of course, the shoes are sold out in the black suede, although they are still available in gold and bronze. (These colours look nicer, and less shiny, in real life than they do on the website, but it was the suede that stole my heart.)

They’re just £25, and you can buy them here.

new look bow platforms red Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: New Looks large bow platform shoes in red

I was seriously starting to flag by the time I reached New Look last weekend, so I only grabbed one pair of shoes to try on. They were the large bow platforms in red, and although I didn’t buy them, I thought they were rather cute and summery, and a good deal for £22.

They’re also available in black, white, and a bright yellow that was just a little bit too bright for me – give me red shoes any day!

matalan shoes Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: Matalan Summer 09 shoes

Over the past few years, Matalan has picked up its game considerably where shoes are concerned, and it’s becoming well known for making some really quite fabulous shoes at bargain-basement prices.  For reasons best known to itself, however, Matalan generally doesn’t put any of these shoes onto its website (there’s a small selection available online, but nothing like the choice you find in store) which means you have to actually visit a store in person if you want to see what’s available.

Or rather, you don’t, because I’m here to do it for you. Well, what else do you have a Shoe Superhero for?

I headed to Matalan this weekend, so you don’t have to. Here’s what I found…
