As my Facebook followers already know, I was in Glasgow on Monday, and while I was there, I figured I may as well do a bit of shoe (window) shopping. Well, someone has to sift through all those shoes and work out which are worth saving and which aren’t, and it may as well be me!
Last week I popped out to buy some eye makeup remover, and found myself sucked into the New Look shoe department instead. The store was super-busy, so I only managed to get a few photos, but here are some of the shoes that jumped out at me…
Just a very quick edition of “Shoe Shopping” today, folks, because this was actually an accidental shopping trip: I was on my way home from an emergency hair appointment (never try to cut your hair yourself, kids, seriously) and, well, it would’ve been a shame not to pop into River Island to cheer myself up, wouldn’t it?
These were the only shoes I tried on. They were on the sale rack, reduced to £30, and I’m sure you can see what it was about them that piqued my interest. As it turned out, something about that flared heel didn’t look quite right to me, so I didn’t buy them (I did but a swimsuit, though, which will obviously be really useful to me in Scotland in March…), but if you fancy a pair, they’re still available on the site, and they also have them in grey. Click here to buy them.
It’s been a long time since I took you all shoe shopping with me (Which is actually how I think of these features, by the way: it’s as if you’re all somehow tucked inside my phone, ooh-ing and aah-ing at each pair of shoes I point the camera at. Or sometimes all shouting, “NO, SHOEPERWOMAN! Put down the shoes and back slowly away!”) so I snapped some quick pictures last time I went on a shopping research trip. Yes, readers, I do the shopping so you don’t have to: I’m all heart!
Now, this trip wasn’t totally without objective. In fact, I very much wanted to get my hands (or feet, rather) on a pair of Schuh’s ‘Frenchie’ butterfly courts, which you may remember me declaring to be Shoe Kryptonite when I wrote about them back in December. And here they are:
Unfortunately the colour didn’t come out quite right in these photos, and the green shoes on the right of the picture look much more turquoise than they do in real life. Their actual colour is much more like the shade shown on the Schuh website, and is absolutely gorgeous, as are the shoes themselves, which made it very hard for me to walk away from them. Here’s a close-up of the butterfly detail:
On my way out of Schuh, I stopped by the sale rack and tried on these Irregular Choice ‘Whitney’ platforms, which I think were down to about £35 (I couldn’t find them on the Schuh website):
During Saturday’s shopping trip, I actually found lots of pairs of shoes I’d gave loved to buy, making it a hard task to narrow it down to just one pair. Here are a few of the ones I managed to get photos off, starting off with those Dorothy Perkins Balmain copies I showed you a few weeks ago.
Now, I’m not a big fan of designer copycat stuff, and these are virtually identical to the Balmain shoes in appearance, although I’m going to be generous and assume there’s a noticeable difference in quality that justifies the price difference. They were much nicer in person than they look on the Dorthy Perkins website, however: so much so that I was really tempted by them. And also by the grey version, which is also available. Oh, STOP IT, Dorothy Perkins, with your pretty shoes!
I didn’t manage to find the jeans I was looking for this weekend, but I did snap a quick picture of these sweet little red Mary Janes in New Look to show you.
I couldn’t find these on the website yet, but I think they were about £20. They have a little bit of an Alice in Wonderland kind of feel too them: very girlish and cute! I didn’t buy them because they were a little bit too girlish for me, but they could make a nice, budget Ruby Shoesday option for some of you!
As for what I did buy, well, I managed to show remarkable restraint, and all I came home with was this dress from the Topshop sale:
Don’t worry: it claims to be a “dress”, but I’m planning on wearing it as a slip – it was only £5, so I think for that price I can afford to wear an ”underwear as outerwear” dress as ACTUAL underwear!
* or as “up close” as I could get with my phone camera when the staff in the store were looking on with interest…
For anyone wondering whether the Prada ‘chandelier” shoes I wrote about last month are any better in person than they appeared on the catwalk, I present the evidence above.
This is a slightly different shoe to the one I showed you in April, and is thankfully missing the Velcro strap, but while I did think they looked a little more expensive in person, and a lot of work has obviously gone into making them, I still don’t think they look like $700 shoes. I bet they make a lot of noise when you walk in them, too…
I spotted these shoes in River Island last week, and had a really hard time walking away and leaving them in the store. Ordinarily, the shiny gold platform on these would’ve put me off, but I found myself loving everything about them, and although this is a style River Island have released in a few different colour combinations this season (I showed you the pink versions here), my love of all things navy makes these my favourites.
These are £59.99, and if it wasn’t the week before pay day, I’d find them even harder to resist. If you can see no reason to resit them at all, however, you can pick up a pair at River Island.
