The winter collections are starting to arrive at Louisa Via Roma, and some of my other favourite online shopping destinations. This makes me sad, especially given that summer has only just started, because who wants to look at winter shoes when there are all of those summer ones still waiting to be worn? On the plus side, however, it does mean we get to look at the latest version of Casadei’s famous ‘Blade’ pumps, and as far as I’m concerned, they’re almost beautiful enough to make winter seem a little less bleak. Almost.

I like these so much I’ve designated them Shoe Kryptonite. This is no small accolade, because honestly, I didn’t really think this shoe could be improved upon. I’ve always been a huge fan of the pointed toe, and that dangerous-looking ‘blade’ stiletto heel, and the sweetheart vamp on this summer’s versions was the perfect icing on the cake. As it turns out, however, you CAN make a good thing better, and Casadei have done it in two ways:

    1. The red suede upper

    2. The bow. Oh my gosh, THAT BOW.

Actually, I’m referring to this particular embellishment as a “bow” purely because that’s what Louisa Via Roma have called it. If it IS a bow, however, it’s a very stylised one, and I absolutely love it. The shape has a decadent, dramatic feel to it, and the pop of purple against the red upper is just perfect.

I think that’s probably more than enough gushing from me, so I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking, and leave you to admire these at your leisure. I know I will be…

  2. Shoe Kryptonite: Office ‘Ophelia Bow’ mint suede bow shoes

Office 'Ophelia Bow' mint court shoes

    Office ‘Ophelia’ bow shoes, £62

If you read my other blog, you might now that I’m currently in the process of shopping for a new house, and while that’s going on, I’m under a strict spending ban: so no new clothes, and definitely no new shoes.

That’s why I was actually pretty gutted to discover these shoes on the Office website last week… and actually quite relieved when I discovered they were already sold out in my size. I mean, if they’d still been available, the effort of trying to resist them might actually have killed me. As it is… well, it’s STILL kinda killing me, if I’m totally honest, because these shoes are complete and utter Kryponite to me. They’re mint. The have a bow – and a beautiful one at that. They’re perfectly shaped. They look like they’re worth a whole lot more than the really quite reasonable £62 Office are asking for them… £62 which may as well be six HUNDRED and two pounds, because even if these were available in my size, I just couldn’t justify them.

    Gutted.

I’m going to have to go and lie down in a darkened room now to recover. If you’re luckier than me, and aren’t on a spending ban AND you wear a UK size 5, 6 or 7, you can get them here. Just please treat them well.

  3. Shoe Kryptonite: Gianvito Rossi mint and blue suede peep toes

Gianvito Rossi mint and blue suede peep toes

Gianvito Rossi mint and blue suede peep toes, £422.86

You know, I’ve spoken a lot here about how mint is one of my favourite shoe colours (and goodness knows, I’ve had more than enough opportunities to indulge that love over the past year), but I think this might be the year that sky blue overtakes it. I’ve been a little bit obsessed with this shade lately: for me, it’s the shade of spring and summer, and there’s something fresh and lovely about it that makes me guaranteed to at least give it a second look any time I come across it.

These particular shoes, however, warranted much more than just one look, and it’s not just the delectable colour choices that done it. No, there’s also that deep, curvy side, topped by the dramatic, high heel. This shape always gives a shoe a very vintage look, I think. It’s something ALDO do fairly often, and I’ve always found it to be a very elegant alternative to the standard peep toe. These Gianvito Rossi peep toes have elegance in abundance, and also have a very dainty feel, thanks to that sexy, low-cut side.

Sadly, there’s no point in me speculating over which colour I’d buy, because it’s just not going to happen, so I’ll ask you instead: mint or blue?

Carvela Khloe bow shoes, £59 (or £29 at Shoeaholics)

Sometimes I think writing this blog is really, really bad for me. I mean, it’s a bit like expecting an alcoholic to work in a bar, isn’t it? I’m faced with all of these beautiful shoes day after day: sometimes it can be REALLY hard not to be tempted to buy them.

    Enter Carvela Khloe.

Now, I have no idea why it’s taken me so long to discover these shoes. I’m actually a little embarrassed about it, to be completely honest. But when I finally found them on the Kurt Geiger website yesterday evening, it was love at first sight. The fact is – and I’m sure I don’t need to point this out – these shoes are more than a little bit inspired by Valentino and their famous bow pumps: in fact, they’re particularly similar to a pair of Valentinos I pinned a few weeks ago, and spent more time than I’d like to admit drooling over. They’re not EXACTLY the same, but that little, puffed-up bow is a favourite of mine, and any time anything even vaguely similar to it appears on a pair of shoes, I can guarantee that I’m going to want to buy them.

    Uh-oh.

I tried to talk myself out of these. They’re available in nude and black, but it was the nude version I really loved, and I’ve already bought a pair of nude shoes this month, so it’s not like I NEEDED them.

But they were 50% off. And selling out fairly quickly, too: my size was still available when I found them, but a few other sizes had already sold out, which told me my size wouldn’t be around for long.

I might have held out despite all of this, but before I’d managed to talk myself out of them entirely, I thought I’d just pay a quick visit to Kurt Geiger’s discount site Shoeaholics, which sells KG brands at vastly reduced prices.

It just so happens that Shoeaholics is having a sale right now, and everything on the site is £29 or under. And it just so happened that they had the Carvela ‘Khloe’ shoes. In my size.

I’m just going to leave you to guess what may or may not have happened next. What I will say, however, is that if you fancy a pair of these yourself, you might want to act fast – I don’t think they’re going to stick around for long!

Giuseppe Zanotti Alien patent sandals, $795

Well, I think this confirms it: Giuseppe Zanotti is definitely trying to bankrupt me. I’ve only named a few shoes “Shoe Kryptonite” so far this year, but already two of them are by Zanotti, with the latest ones being these Giuseppe Zanotti Alien patent sandals, which are currently available at Shopbop, where they’re $705.

I actually let out a little gasp when these appeared on my screen, and that’s always a sure-fire sign that the shoes I’m looking at are probably Shoe Kryptonite. (Well, either that or they’re by Jeffrey Campbell, and I’m gasping in horror, rather than delight…) What’s more, I was already head-over-stiletto-heels for these shoes before I saw the view from the side, which showcases the beautiful exaggerated curve of the shape. This is a shape Zanotti has been using frequently this season, and it never fails to make me stop in my tracks, so I sincerely hope he keeps on doing it.

Although they’re identifiably “Zanotti”, these sandals have a slightly more delicate, classic look about them than many of the designer’s other styles. They’re very far removed, for instance, from the dramatic, heel-less platforms and spiky uppers which this brand is famous for, but they’re not less beautiful, with their lovely, pale-pink uppers and vintage vibe. In fact, they’re the quintessential summer sandal: perfect with a floaty sun dress on a hot day!

One word of warning: these have a 5″ stiletto heel, and just a 0.5″ platform to balance it out. That particular combination is going to create a very steep angle for the foot, which probably won’t make these particularly comfortable. Mind you, I have a feeling Guiseppe Zanotti, like Christian Louboutin, and many other designers I could mention, isn’t really thinking about “comfort” when he designs shoes, somehow…

  6. Shoe Kryptonite: Bottega Veneta bow-embellished leather pumps

    Bottega Veneta bow-embellished leather pumps

Bottega Veneta bow-embellished leather pumps, £510

Is it sad to admit that, having bookmarked these shoes at the start of the Christmas break, I was actually kinda looking forward to getting back into a regular posting schedule, just so I could show you them? A little bit? Well, OK: it’s true, though – in fact, I like them so much I’ve decided to just call declare them Shoe Kryptonite and be done with it!

These are a very spring-like form of kryptonite, too. I love yellow at any time of year, but this shade is particularly suited to Easter time, and I also (obviously) adore the oversized bow on the pointed toe. Add a curvy stiletto heel, and I’m sure you can see why these are so dangerous to me – and why I’m desperately hoping an affordable high street version will come along soon!

I’m going to take a wild guess that these shoes won’t be kryptonite for all of you. Some of you will probably hate that stiletto, and the way it’s set in from the heel of the shoe, rather than directly underneath it, as in most shoes. I get it.

Not me, though. No, for me that heel shape is the very thing that sets these shoes apart, and makes them so totally stunning. Sure, I’d have liked them even without that particular details: the colour is one of my all-time favourites, and the shape is elegant and sexy – everything you want from a pair of heels, basically! The shape of the heel, however, adds that certain something that turns these into pure shoe kryptonite: the very first of the new year!

Oh, my. I think I might have just entered some kind of Shoe Nirvana here…

I’ve been singing Badgley Mischka’s praises for a while now, but these shoes have truly earned the title of “Shoe Kryptonite”, because they’re perfect in every way. Those steep, curvy sides! That most perfect of bows! The bronze glitter upper! I could go on, but it would just be more gushing, so I’ll simply add that if you’re planning on getting married anytime soon (or even if you’re not):
