As usual with these Shoe Deja Vus, it’s the idea of the shoe that’s similar, rather than the execution: the Charles David shoes have a cork wedge rather than a leather one, a full heel rather than a slingback, and pink trim rather than gold. It’s all of these details, however, which, when seen side-by-side with their older sisters, makes the Carvela shoes look so much better to me, and as there’s not a huge difference in the price (the Charles David shoes are $174.99 at Heels.com, while the Carvelas are down to £120 (about $189) at Sarenza), those are the ones I’d probably go for.
I always feel like I should go on some kind of glitter diet in January: after all the sparkliness of the festive season, I really start to crave the simplest of styles, from clothes to shoes: in fact, I’m writing this wearing an old pair of ballet flats and some plain capri pants and I do not care. In fact, I’m rather enjoying it.
Still, I couldn’t let these shoes go unrecorded, glitter-diet or not. River Island have been bringing out quite a few designer-inspired pieces recently, and all of these shoes reminded me of Miu Miu’s most recent collection, with their curved or flared heels and their suede/glitter uppers.
I’ve found my tolerance of glitter shoes has been considerably higher following my Ted Baker Keanah2 purchase, and I actually quite like all of these. I’ve no idea how I’d actually wear all of them, of course, but hey, it could be an interesting challenge, don’t you think?
(And yes, I’d ever give the glitter ankle boots a go. Well, why not?)
Now, I know the execution is different here, but bold black and white stripes with a bright yellow heel is unusual enough for it to seem unlikely that Sam Edelman and Guiseppe Zanotti just happened to come up with exactly the same idea, doesn’t it?
I showed you the Zanottis a few weeks ago, and continue to covet them, although I guess the Edleman version is a whole lot more budget-friendly, at just $110 compared to the $750 you’d pay to Zanotti.
Both shoes are available at Shopbop: click here to take a look!
Speaking of Christian Louboutin’s ‘Daffodil’ pumps (which I kind of was earlier today), these are new in at Sarenza this week, and instantly reminded me of the blue ‘Watresnake’ Daffs: they have the same colour, and the same platform shape, no?
For that reason, I was seriously tempted by these: as some of you know, I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of blue pumps for a while now, and the Daffodil shape has definitely won my heart. I’m not quite sure if I could pull these off, though, and I also worry about the platform dating them very quickly. The black version which is also available may be a little more wearable, however, and at £105, they’re certainly cheaper than the designer version, so if you’re looking for some Loubie-lookalikes (I think that may just be my new favourite phrase), look no further!
It’s the familiar shape of YSL’s ‘Palais’ platforms… on a shoe by Kelsi Dagger.
THIS is the YSL shoe:
As you can see, the overhang on the toe is more extreme in the original, as is the curve on the heel. The basic shape is the same, tough, and Kelsi Dagger’s ‘Arielle’ is just one of many versions of this shoe that you’ll be able to find at the moment, so no need to despair over the £520 price tag on the originals: these ones are just $129, and are available in five different colours: click here to take a look.
At some point between starting to put this post together and finishing it, I came down with a heavy cold. I’m currently typing this surrounded by tissues and cold medicine, so I hope you’ll forgive me for keeping the words to a minimum, and letting the pictures do the talking here: in short, these are just a few of the incidents of Shoe Deja Vu I’ve had while browsing the Charlotte Russe website lately, and while some are more blatant than others, I’m starting to wonder if CR may be making an attempt to steal Steve Madden’s title of King of the Copycats. Take a look, and tell me what you think…
Once again, these aren’t an exact copy: the placement of the spikes is different, and the CR version looks… well, cheap… compared to the Louboutins, but the inspiration is unmistakable, no?
(Yes, I know they’re a different colour, but both CR and RI carry this style in a range of shades.)
This style has popped up from a few different designers now: does this mean River Island is starting to provide “inspiration” to other designers, too? Nothing would surprise me…
They’re not the same, obviously, but the contrasting hearts are definitely similar. In this case, however, I think I like the Topshop version more: as you may know, I’m a fan of hearts on shoes (or anything else, really), and the ones on the right of the image above are possibly the only thing that could possibly induce me to buy a white, pointed-toe stiletto.
If white isn’t for you, however, these also come in black, and there’s a version with gold hearts, too. They’re £58 at Topshop: click here to buy them.
