Office ‘Kiss Chase’ pastel platform sandals

office kiss chase sandals Office Kiss Chase pastel platform sandals

I honestly don’t know what to make of these shoes. On the one hand, they’re certainly summery, and that goes a long way with me: I can forgive a shoe a lot if it at least makes me think of summer!

On the other hand, however, I’m a little worried about those flowers on the heel: as big a fan as I am of oversized embellishments, and as much as I like the pastel colours used here, they’re just a little bit awkwardly placed, and are going to both enlarge the ankle area and draw attention to it – not necessarily a good thing.

For me, then, these fall firmly into the “would have to see them on a foot” category. Other people have clearly been more decisive about them, though, because they’re already sold out in a few sizes at Office, where they’re £70: click here to find out if your size is still available.

When it comes to evening sandals, black is a colour I tend to neglect a little, feeling like I really ought to go for something a little more adventurous. Sometimes you just can’t beat the classics, though, and these Karen Millen sandals are anything but boring, with  their gorgeous floral appliqué front:

Neon crossover platform sandals from River Island

fluorescent shoes Neon crossover platform sandals from River Island

Unlike some other shoes trends which I’ve dismissed out of hand, and then gradually been won over by (Yes, pointed toes, I AM looking at you…), I don’t think I’ll ever get fully on board with the fluorescent colours that are everywhere right now. I can, however, deal with them in very small doses, with these River Island sandals representing the outer limit of my tolerance for neon.

I wouldn’t just “tolerate” these shoes, though: I actually really like them, and think the addition of the neon heel and strap is a good one in this case – imagine how much duller these shoes would be without it!

I also like the contrast of leather and suede, which is something that almost always appeals to me. My only issue with these? That dirty mark on the platform of the shoe on the left: once you see it, it becomes ALL you can see…

I wrote just last week about my love of gold shoes, and how well they work as a neutral - they’re a little dressier than “nude”, but just as versatile as they’ll go with so many other colours.

With metallic shoes, my motto is generally “the simpler, the better”, so I really like the way these Moschino Cheap & Chic peep toes combine a super-simple vamp with a cheeky little bow on the heel:

Adorable. If only they weren’t £325…

Charles Jourdan ‘Elena’ multicoloured suede sandals

These shoes have a bit of an 80s feel to them, courtesy of both the shape and the colour mix, but my current obsession with pastels is making it easy for me to forgive them for it.

These combine yellow, lilac, pink, peach and green, which will at least give you lots of options when it comes to choosing an outfit to wear with them: black, white, or some other block colour would be the most obvious choices, of course, but you can also just take your pick of one (or more) of the six colours on the upper, and go with that.

The crossover design is even nicer when viewed from above:

Now, wouldn’t those be pretty to look down at?

    Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Neon Lace’ sandals

If I was going to wear neon (and, just to be clear, I’m not) I think this is definitely the way I’d do it. Sure, the yellows and pinks used on Nicholas Kirkwood’s ‘Neon Lace’ sandals are definitely bright, but somehow the combination of the two, and the floral pattern, tones the overall effect down a little, leaving you with a pretty summer sandal which taps into the current trend for neon (if that’s important to you) without being overwhelmed by it.

The lace mentioned in the name of these shoes is the pink overlay on top of the yellow leather: an interesting touch, which makes these just a little different from many of the other floral prints that are around right now.

    River Island two-tone strappy sandals

The very sight of these shoes makes me want to immediately rush out and get a pedicure, but assuming I could get my mind past the idea of the OMGEXPOSEDFEET, I really like the colours used on these two-tone sandals from River Island - even the neon yellow, which is something I never thought I’d hear myself say. Because of the barely-there look of these, though, the dash of colour is just enough to be interesting without being overpowering – or to give you too many flashbacks to the later 80s/early 90s.

Simple, summery and stylish, these are £55 at River Island: click here to buy them.

    Zara colourblock platform sandals

With many shoe makers rejecting chunky shapes and huge platforms in favour of more “ladylike” pointed toes and stilettos, Zara seems to have gone the other way, and while the Spanish retailer has its fair share of pointed court shoes right now, they also have quite a few styles like the one shown above, featuring a colourblocked upper on top of a platform that just seems to go up, and up and up…

Along similar lines, but with a slimmer heel, are these:

which also come in bright yellow:
