I don’t know about you, but I’ve been living in black ankle boots lately. Don’t get me wrong: I love them – and actually have no idea what I’d be wearing at the moment if I didn’t own a couple of pairs that are on constant rotation – but they say a change is as good as a rest, which is why these cream boots from River Island are a breath of fresh air.
These have all of the elements that make me love ankle boots, particularly the streamlined shape, and narrow leg opening, which allows them to be worn with both trousers and skirts/dresses. The colour, however, although still totally neutral, makes them a little more unusual than the standard black boots that are everywhere at the moment (including in about 50% of my outfit posts!), and will allow them to work right through spring, and maybe even summer, depending on the weather and your personal style. I always used to believe that boots are only for cold weather, but these days they’ve become a year-round staple – which I guess makes sense here in the UK, given our typically chilly summers!
It’s with spring in mind that I’ve styled this outfit. I think the cream upper and black elastic sides give these boots a bit of a mod feel, so I’ve gone with a short, a-line dress, in a fresh mint green shade. This is by Alexander McQueen, so it’s not exactly cheap: the stores are starting to fill up with this kind of style, however, so hopefully it won’t be too tricky to find something similar, at whatever price point works for you!
