red and blue pointed court shoes

    Boutique 9 ‘Justine’, $140

Boutique 9′s ‘Justine’ pumps are one of those styles that have been around for a long time, and which keep being re-released in a selection of different uppers. That’s a sure sign that a shoe is selling well, and I think the reasons for that are pretty obvious: regardless of the colour or texture of the uppers, these are basically the perfect, pointed pump, with no frills, no fuss, just a classic shape and a style you can wear anywhere.

Shopbop are currently stocking these in a variety of shades, but the two I’ve shown above are my personal favourites, and I have a feeling the red version might find its way onto my shoe shelves sooner or later. Well, you can never have too many pairs of red pumps, right? Right? I also love the bright blue: it’s such a bold shade, but one that I find fairly easy to wear, and it works particularly well with all of those stripe tops I keep on buying!

I’ve seen a lot of bloggers wearing these recently, mostly with casual outfits like boyfriend jeans or cropped pants. I really love the juxtaposition of dress shoe with casual bottoms, but these will also be perfect with more formal outfits, too: another reason to love them!

  2. RED Valentino Flower Paillette Pumps

    pink flower pumps

    Red Valentino pumps, £337.36

Did anyone else look at these shoes and instantly go, “Awwwww!”? Just me? It was my instinctive reaction to them, purely because they’re just so darn SWEET, aren’t they? The baby pink upper, the cute little sprinkling of flowers… they have a very youthful, girlish feel to them somehow, which is all very typical of the RED Valentino brand.

These have pink leather uppers with flower paillettes dotted from toe to heel. The heel itself, meanwhile, is a 3.5″ stiletto: high, but very walkable – or at least more so than some! At a time when pointed toes have once again become the norm, I know the almond toe on these will be welcomed by many of you, too. The great thing about almond toes is that never really go out of fashion: the pointed versions come and go, but this kind of shape sticks around, and never really looks dated, which is why it makes a good choice for classic dressers, or people looking to buy investment pieces which will last for years. Of course, the floral upper on these makes them more of a “trend” piece than a “wear forever” one, although I guess that’s a matter of personal taste. Even if they don’t turn out to be something you wear for years to come, I think they’d see you through a good few springs and summers at least, thanks to that unusual floral upper!

  3. Jimmy Choo ‘Tia’ Jeweled Leather Pumps

Jimmy Choo court shoes with crystal embellishment

    silver Jimmy Choo heel

    pointed toe with crystal embellishment

    Jimmy Choo ‘Tia’, £2214

This is the second pair of crystal embellished shoes I’ve shown you today, but while these are significantly more expensive than the first pair, I actually think they look cheaper. Something about sewn-on crystals like this always makes me think of a child’s craft project, and although I would definitely love to meet the child who’d come up with a pair of stiletto heels at craft time (That would be a child after my own heart, for sure…), I’m not sure I’d actually like to wear the shoes that resulted from the project in question.

These, however, are not even remotely cheap or homemade: they’re by Jimmy Choo, and they’re £2214, which puts them into the “only if I won the lottery” price bracket for me. Although I’m not a huge fan of the embellishments, I adore the shape, and I also appreciate the attempt to make these different from the usual crop of black courts. I’ve said it before, but as much as I love court shoes, they do have a tendency to all start to blend into one another after a while, and that’s definitely not something you could say about these.

Do these shoes stand out for the right reasons, though? Well, that’s for you to decide, but if you happen to decide in their favour, you can head over to Saks Fifth Avenue to buy a pair.

  4. Giuseppe Zanotti Studded Pointed-Toe Pumps

red studded court shoes with pointed toes

    Giuseppe Zanotti pumps, £543

I couldn’t let the day come to an end without showing you these wonderful red pumps, by Giuseppe Zanotti.

These have that oh-so-familiar pointed-toe shape: if you’re not used to it by now, well, you probably never will be, because this kind of look has dominated the shoe scene for a while now, and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere fast. That leaves shoe designers with the problem of trying to constantly re-invent the classic look – or at least freshen it up a little – and in Giuseppe Zanotti’s case, he’s used two different techniques to make sure his pointed red pumps stand out from the rest:

    1. The gold studs covering the entire upper

    2. The slender, cone-shaped heel, which isn’t radically different from a standard stiletto, but which does help to create a slightly different look.

I, as I’m sure I don’t need to tell you, love everything about these. I probably wouldn’t spend £543 on them, mind you, purely because there are a lot of lower-priced options out there right now, and while they may not look quite as nice as these, the fact that they don’t COST as much either makes them a whole lot more appealing. If these are the only shoes for you, however, you’ll find them at Neiman Marcus, where they’re also available in black.

  5. Forever 21 satin heart-print pumps

Forever 21 white shoes with heart print pattern

    Forever 21 heart-print pumps, £22.90

Want to try out the white shoe trend, but worried that brilliant, blinding white might not be the easiest colour to pull off? A white shoe with a small print can be an easy way to dip your toe into the trend without fully committing to it – or buying shoes which might look dated by this time next year – and as far as I’m concerned, heart-print is ALWAYS a good idea.

The hearts on these shoes are small enough to not look TOO cutesy: they’d easily be mistaken for pin-dots at first glance, and it’s only when you take a second look that the real pattern becomes apparent. These are higher than they look – they have a 4″ heel, with no platform – and the satin upper wouldn’t be my first choice of upper (I’d love them in leather!), but this IS a £22 pair of shoes from F21 we’re talking about so I guess we can’t expect to have it all.

What we DO have with these, however, is a really sweet little shoe that’ll see you through the summer season at least, and look great with all of those black and white pieces currently filling the stores.

  6. Rochas pink and glitter slingbacks with cut-outs

pink slingback shoes with glitter heel pink patent slingback shoes

    shoes with pink toes

    Rochas slingbacks, £385

At first glance, I assumed these shoes were just a pretty pair of pink slingbacks, with the glittery stiletto heel being the stand-out feature. Upon closer inspection, however, I found they’re actually a little more unusual than that, thanks to the slightly strange toe detail, which I didn’t notice right away, but which is much more obvious in the second and third photos.

So, what we basically have here is… an open toe which remains “closed” at the very end? A closed toe with a large cut-out in the front? I’m not quite sure which way to look at it, but however you choose to see it, it’s basically a cross between the two: these will give a large amount of toe cleavage – almost as much as an open-toed sandal, in fact – but the leather toe will cover the very tips of your toenails. I’m curious to see what these would look like on a foot: my instinct is that it could look a little bit odd, and that I’d prefer for these shoes to make up their minds what they want to be – i.e. open OR closed, not both – but as we know, shoes can look very different when they’re being worn, and I guess there’s always the chance that they could look fantastic. I just doubt it, somehow.

What do you say to these?

  7. Alejandro Ingelmo turquoise and silver slingbacks

    turquoise shoes with silver slingbacks

    Alejandro Ingelmo slingbacks, £450

I’ve been really loving Alejandro Ingelmo’s current shoe collection, and of all the shoes I’ve shown you (and all the ones I haven’t shown you, but have stared at longingly, come to think of it…) I think these two-tone slingbacks win the House Cup.

The obvious talking point here is the sleek, silver slingback, which doesn’t just anchor the shoe to your foot, but also creates that wonderful, swooping silhouette. The turquoise suede upper also merits a mention here, though. This is a shade I’ve always loved, and although we don’t see it all that often on footwear, when we do, it’s almost always worth the wait.

The relatively pale colour gives these a very Spring/Summer feel (and, indeed, they’re from this season’s collection), but if you wanted to wear them all year round, I think they’d make beautiful evening shoes, too. I love pairing silver with white, and always think it creates a very futuristic kind of look, but these would work equally well with a little black dress, and, for some reason I’m also imagining them with yellow, if you wanted to be a little braver with your colour choices.

  8. Philipp Plein pink glimmer court shoes with spikes

pink high heel shoes spikes on heels

    Philipp Plein pumps, $825

Well, I guess those sharp little spikes are definitely ONE way to get rid of any stereotypes that might be prompted by the girlie shade of these pumps, huh?

The colour may not be one I’d usually go for, but the shape of these Philipp Plein pumps most definitely IS something I’d go for, and the glittered leather upper is also something I’m a fan of, because it’s glitzy without being tacky. That said this particular shade of pink can be hard to wear in a way that says “sophisticated woman of the world” as opposed to “I still have my collection of Barbie dolls”, so these probably aren’t the kind of shoes you’ll want to wear for the office, say. For a fun evening out, though, I think they’re the kind of thing that could give any outfit a giant dose of girlie glamour. If I were wearing these, I’d probably keep the rest of the look pared-down, in a bid to keep things (relatively) classy – oh, and I’d definitely avoid pink!
