Oh dear. This is one of those “I kind of wish I hadn’t looked” moments for me. My bank account just can’t handle the large amount of spots and stripes it’s being exposed to right now, you see, and I feel like these Naughty Monkey slingbacks have been sent to try me.
It’s no good, shoes: you can stare at me all you want, with your nautical upper and your espadrille platform, which would be just oh-so-appropriate for summer. You can even try to tempt me with your very reasonable $69.99 price tag.
I won’t buy you, though. No, I won’t. But only because you’re in the US, and I’m willing to bet that the import duties would be almost as much as the shoes themselves. If I’d found these on a UK website? Well, that might be a different story altogether…
A Valentino-esque bow with an almost Tiffany-blue upper? Well, I don’t mind if I do…
These shoes scream “Easter” to me, and, more specifically, “Easter eggs”. I guess that’s possibly a bit of an odd connection, but something about the colour and the bows really reminds me of chocolate eggs… and now I REALLY want some chocolate eggs, so let’s move on from that idea, shall we?
We don’t really celebrate Easter in our house (other than with the eating of vast quantities of chocolate, that is. Whoops, so much for not talking about it!) so there’s not much call to get dressed up for it. That’s never stopped me before, however, and I can see these shoes as part of the perfect Easter outfit: they’d look fabulous with most pastels, and have a very “ladylike” feel about them, which would make me want to add a cute little hat and maybe some gloves, too. Over the top? Maybe. But awesome, all the same…
These are also available in black, but really, where’s the fun in that?
Meet Kurt Geiger’s ‘Esme’. Esme is one of those shoes which lures you in with her soft beige and eggshell upper – so far, so very soothing – and hits you smack in the face with a bright yellow heel:
With studs on.
And OK, these shoes won’t actually smack you in the face: that would be really painful. The heels are a little bit unexpected, though, and although I do like them, my natural aversion to anything neon tells me that I’d have liked them even more without the yellow.
That’s just me, though, and I’m not sure the bright colour would put me off, were they to magically appear on my shoe shelves, say.
Most of the ones I seem to find, mind you, tend to be of the tan and black persuasion, so it’s refreshing to come across a pair which use the much more unusual colour combination of gold and pink. These are by Giambattista Valli, and are $685 at My Theresa (click here to buy them). I also love this green and navy version by Giuseppe Zanotti:
These are a tiny bit less expensive, too: they’re $432 at Colette: click here to buy them.
I have very little to say about these shoes that I haven’t already said on the subject of pretty, green peep toes, so I will simply leave you to speculate amongst yourselves about how long it will be before I’ll convince myself I need to buy them.
Shoes with ankle straps aren’t generally the first style I’ll reach for when I’m shopping (although I do have a few pairs which I love!), but something about the chunky shape of these court shoes from French Connection really drew me to them. I think the colour helps, here: these shoes are also available in black, and while they’re still nice, they just don’t pack quite as much of a punch as the red version, with their thick heel and matching platform.
You put these on via a zip at the back of the heel:
with the gold hardware on the zip and buckle also providing a bit of contrast with the red suede.
These are currently down to £136 from £160 at Spartoo, and are available in sizes 4 – 7.5. Click here to buy a pair.
As you may have gathered from my recent posts about them, I’ve been spending a bit of time browsing the Very.co.uk website this month, and wondering why it is that I always seem to forget about it when I’m looking for interesting shoes or clothes to blog about? The shoes shown above aren’t the most interesting pair in the world – even I sometimes think a shoe can have too many bows for its own good – but they are only £24 in the sale, so I thought I’d show you them anyway (even although you may well resent me for it when you discover that there aren’t a lot of sizes left: sorry.)
These are from Very’s Holly Willoughby range, and you can click here to buy them. Also from the Holly Willoughby range, and completely unrelated to the world of shoes, is this dress:
I know a lot of people hate grey, but l’m not one of them! This is £39 here.
Navy and green are probably the two colours I wear most often (I’ll just give you a few seconds to recover from that deeply surprising bit of information, shall I?), so naturally, finding a shoe which combines both colours is like finding free Louboutins at the end of a rainbow. OK, no it isn’t: nothing would really beat free Louboutins, would it? But these Dorothy Perkins colourblock heels are still pretty cute: the chunky heel and two-toned bow both get my vote, and if navy and green aren’t your colours, there’s also this version:
These up the ante a little with three different colours, one of which is the season’s-essential (if you believe in such things): orange.
Finally, if you’re still not down with colourblocking, or if, like me, you have a bit of a problem with constantly buying more pairs of “nude” heels, I give you these:
I like them all, and I also like the £42 price tag: if you do, too, you can click here to buy a pair!
