“I’m going to try not to blog about polka dot shoes this week,” I told myself. “I know there are hundreds of them around right now, and I can’t seem to look at a shoe website without literally seeing spots, but I have to draw the line somewhere, or my blog will be completely taken over by the things.”
“Well, maybe I’ll just write about this one pair,” I thought. “After all, they’re AMAZING, and they’re so Shoeperwoman: I don’t think anyone will blame me. I’ll just show this one pair.”
“And, OK, this OTHER pair. But that’s it! And, I mean, it’s not like I’m showing them, like, EIGHT PAIRS or something, all at the same time!”
OH GOD. SOMEONE MAKE IT STOP.
Seriously, I’m crying here, people. CRYING. And, of course, being Gina, these are all way out of my price range, which is probably a good thing, because I’ve already started entertaining a little daydream in which I build a second set of shoe shelves, and fill them with these shoes. Yes, all of them. (But especially the very first pair I showed you…)
It’s going to be a very expensive summer, readers.
If you think you can resist the temptation, these are all available at the Gina website.
Well, these are certainly different from the type of shoes I normally show you, aren’t they?
Before you go getting too excited, though, there are three things to bear in mind:
1. They haven’t actually gone into production yet, as it seems there are some (unsurprising) problems with making them actually wearable. United Nude creative director Rem D. Koolhaas said, “We are still figuring out the production because the heels are so against gravity. It’s quite difficult to develop such shapes….” Yeah, no kidding?
2. When they DO figure out a way to make these boots happen, only four pairs will be produced. I’m guessing Lady Gaga probably already has her name down for one pair, but who’ll get the other three?
3. They’ll cost $900.
All of that seems to rule these out for most of us, but still: WOW. And once again: WOW.
These are the kind of shoes I always think of as “Runway Footwear”: i.e., they’re the kind of shoes that look amazing on the runway, or as part of a fashion editorial, but which I’m always a little surprised to see actually go into production, because as fabulous as they are, they’re probably the kind of thing that are destined to generate a “love or hate” kind of response.
Designed to look like a colourblock sandal with a flower scribbled over the sides, these are very creative, and amazing to look at. Would you wear them, though? And, more to the point, would you pay $1,250 for them?
Well, I did warn you I’d be showing you a lot of Jimmy Choo this month…
These shoes aren’t ones I expect you to like, necessarily: shoes like this rarely go down well here, but I still have to give them points for effort, and these certainly look like a whole lot of that has gone into their creation:
I really love to look at the heels of these, even if I wouldn’t particularly want to wear them. I like to think that Cinderella’s glass slippers would’ve looked a little bit like this (alebit probably without the platform and studded straps), and the heel is gorgeous, even although the uppers don’t exactly say “£1,671 worth of shoe” to me.
Yes. £1,671. That’s how much these cost. Are you even a little bit tempted?
It’s February, Shoe Challengettes! And you know what that means: you have just under TWO WEEKS to save your remaining shoes, before they have to go to either the great shoe shelves in the sky, or to your choice of charity!
Next week will be week 52 (I can’t quite believe I’m typing that – it’s come round so quickly!), but as the 14th falls on a Tuesday, we’ll have one more roundup after that, for any last-minute shoes you manage to save before the end, so if ever there was a time to get shoe-saving, this is it: time’s a-wastin’!
How did everyone get on this week? Let’s see the shoes that made the cut! Do you think you’re going to make it to the end with your shoe collections intact?
After yesterday’s moment of mild horror from M. Louboutin, I’m pleased to see The Master return to form with these amazing crisscross platform sandals, which represent everything that is wonderful, from the red heel, to the crossover straps and, well, just everything really.
All is forgiven. Mr L. And mine is a size 37, just in case you’re wondering..
As usual with these Shoe Deja Vus, it’s the idea of the shoe that’s similar, rather than the execution: the Charles David shoes have a cork wedge rather than a leather one, a full heel rather than a slingback, and pink trim rather than gold. It’s all of these details, however, which, when seen side-by-side with their older sisters, makes the Carvela shoes look so much better to me, and as there’s not a huge difference in the price (the Charles David shoes are $174.99 at Heels.com, while the Carvelas are down to £120 (about $189) at Sarenza), those are the ones I’d probably go for.
If you’re wondering what to wear on Valentine’s Day (or what to buy to celebrate the end of the Shoe Challenge at the same time!), Dune have handily named these heart-print sandals “Valentine”, to steer you in the right direction.
I’m not much of a fan of wearing hearts on Valentine’s Day (or any kind of “themed” dressing, come to think of it), but I’d happily wear these at any time of the year: I love the heart print and the cute little bow!
If you’re the type who likes your shoes to match your handbag (I know this is very frowned upon by some!), there’s even a little heart-covered clutch bag to match:
Awww!
Both of these are available from the Dune website: click here to buy them.
