  1. Schuh ‘Dirty Dancing’ polka dot bow heels

navy and red polka dot shoes with bows

    Schuh ‘Dirty Dancing’, £35

Polka dots and bows? Navy and red? Those are two combinations that almost always render a pair of shoes irresistible to me, as I’m sure you already know, if you’ve been reading here for a while. These shoes, however, didn’t quite do it. Oh, I love the colours and I love the dots – you can pretty much take that as read. When you add the mid-height heel, the ankle strap and the giant bow, though, I think you end up with a shoe which is a little too cartoonish for its own good: or maybe just too cartoonish to be a perfect fit for my closet.

That’s not to say these won’t be a great fit for yours, though, and if you’re a fan of mid-height heels, then these shoes offer yet another opportunity to buy a pair that actually look fun, rather than frumpy. These are named after the movie Dirty Dancing, and the shape does remind me of a classic dance shoe, so I’m sure these would be comfortable if you wanted to take them out for a night of dancing, “dirty” or otherwise!

If you like the shape but not the print, meanwhile, you might be interested to know that these also come in plain black, and you can find them at Schuh.

  2. Charlotte Olympia Rose sandals

platform sandals with rose detail pink rose on high heel sandal

    Charlotte Olympia sandals, $1,185

When I first came across these sandals, the web page was scrolled down, making it look like the sole of the shoe was completely flat. “At last!” I thought, “A pair of Charlotte Olympia shoes which don’t have the giant platform everyone seems to detest!” Then I scrolled up and yup, there it is. It was a disappointment, but only a small one: for one thing, I’ve never really had an issue with Charlotte Olympia’s trademark “island” platform, but for another, I think these shoes are pretty enough for me to forgive them just about anything.

These are called ‘Rose’, for obvious reason. The high, stiletto heel forms the green stem of the flower which sits at the very top of it, and there;s also a leaf detail on the vamp, to finish off the look. It’s a very unusual look, although not nearly as “out there” as many of the designs we see from this brand. I think they’re absolutely beautiful, but there’s no doubt that Charlotte Olympia always manages to get a wide range of reactions from people, so tell me: what’s your reaction to these?

  3. Metamorf’Ose nautical wedge sandals in red, white and blue

    nautical wedges

    Metamorf’Ose sandals, £61.99

Metamorf’Ose is a brand that’s totally new to me, but if the cute little wedges shown above are anything to go by, I already think I’m going to like it. A lot.

Red, white and blue combinations always scream “nautical” (Or “patriotic”, depending on where you come from!), and these shoes do nothing to dissuade me from describing them that way: the rope sole and braided ankle strap also have a very “seafaring” kind of feel to them, and while these would be no use at all on the ACTUAL high seas, well, you can always pretend. Ideally on dry land, where you won’t run the risk of ruining your new shoes or sliding down a slippery deck.

As for what to wear with these, I think the perfect nautical shoes call for an equally perfect nautical dress, don’t you?

Kate Spade Mariella nautical stripe dress

    Kate Spade ‘Mariella’ dress, $448

OK, so the dress AND shoes together might be just a little bit too literal for some of you. I’ve never let that stop me in the past, though, and I’m not about to let it stop me now, because that dress is pure perfection for a stripe addict like myself. The price, on the other hand, probably WOULD stop me, but at least the shoes are a little more affordable, at £61.99.

  4. La Redoute yellow polka dot wedges

    yellow polka dot wedges

    La Redoute wedges, £23.40

A sunshiney pair of bright yellow canvas wedges: is there anything better when it comes to summer shoes?

Well, a fun, polka dot print would be nice too, of course, and, luckily for us, these deliver on that front too, with heaps of pin-up inspired style. These shoes also come in plain black and red, both of which will make for versatile choices, and according to the reviews on the La Redoute website, the fabric used on the upper is nice and soft, which is always good news for shoes destined to be worn on a hot summer’s day.

I don’t often feature La Redoute footwear, because while I love the brand’s budget-priced clothing ranges, I always find the shoes a little over-priced in comparison. These, however, have just been reduced from the original price of £39 (Which isn’t exactly “expensive”, obviously, but is still more than I’d normally choose to spend on this style of shoe), so they won’t too too hard on your wallet, either.

  5. J Jasper Conran Striped Satin Court Shoes

    by

black and white stripe court shoes

black and white stripe bow on heel of shoes

    Jasper Conran pumps, £52

The J by Jasper Conran collection is a line that doesn’t get nearly enough attention here at ShoeperWoman.com. Not only are the price points very affordable (especially compared to some other high street brands), every time I decide to have a browse through the shoes on offer, I always seem to find something I love.

Today, that something came in the form of these black and white satin pumps, which feature a beautiful bow on the heel. That sentence alone is probably more than enough to tell you why I’m so keen on these, but just in case you’re still in the dark, all you need to do is take another look at that heel. The black and white stripes are very much on trend this season, it’s true, but I’d like them even if they weren’t, and a bow on a heel is pretty much guaranteed to win the shoeper seal of approval.

These shoes have satin uppers, and a 4.25″ stiletto heel, and although the monochrome colour scheme gives them a bit of trend appeal right now, I think they’re classic enough to stand the test of time: or a few good parties, at the very least.

  6. Dorothy Perkins mink bow court shoes

    mink bow court shoes

    Dorothy Perkins pumps, £32

I wrote about Dorothy Perkins’ DP Occasion collection last week, and now here’s another lovely pair of shoes from the same line.

When it comes to special occasion shoes, you can go one of two ways: you can either grab the excuse to wear the most extravagant, party-appropriate pair you own (Well, when else are you going to get the chance to wear shoes coated in glitter or sequins, after all?), or you can choose  a more understated option, to let the rest of your outfit do the talking.

The option you choose will, of course, depend on what you’re planning to wear WITH the shoes (I hear there are some people out there who choose their shoes to go with their outfits, rather than the other way around: strange!) (That was a joke, by the way…), but if you’re going with the second choice, I think these could be a lovely accessory to a beautiful dress. They won’t steal any attention away from it, but they’re still very pretty in their own right, and I really like the little double-bow detail on the toe.

But what about that dress I keep mentioning? What WOULD you wear with mink coloured shoes? Well, I think these would work with most jewel tones, or even black/navy, but personally I’d go for something like this:

    lace pencil dress

    Lace pencil dress, Warehouse

What would you wear with these?

  7. Jimmy Choo ‘Kalan’ blue suede platform pumps with perforated detail

Jimmy Choo Kalan blue high heel shoes

blue laser cut high heel shoes blue high heels

    Jimmy Choo ‘Kalan’, 895 euros

I’ve never been a big Jimmy Choo fan. I know that’s pretty much sacrilege for a shoe blogger, and don’t get me wrong, I do LIKE the brand, I just don’t really LOVE it. Well, not until now, anyway. These, you see, are the second pair of Jimmy Choos to grace these pages in recent weeks, and although the very high tongue isn’t something I’d normally go for, it certainly makes for an interesting twist on the classic peep toe.

Another interesting detail comes in the form of those intricate, laser-cut uppers, which help make that bright blue suede a little more summery than it would have been without it. The high ankle strap, meanwhile, helps balance out the equally high vamp, and while we’re on the subject of height, let me just quickly add that these have a 5″ stiletto heel, with a 1″ platform.

If these shoes were a dress, this is the dress they’d be:

blue dress with laser cut bodiice

ASOS Black laser cut neoprene dress, £66

Unfortunately, this dress sold out sometime between my discovery of it and my sitting down to write about it, but it looks so much like the shoes in dress-form that I thought I’d show you it anyway. I’m not, of course, suggesting that you should commit the matchy-matchy crime of wearing the two together (heaven forbid!), but if you DO happen to like it, I found quite a few on eBay.

As for what I WOULD wear with these shoes: well, I like the way My Theresa have styled them with a blue floral print, and when it comes to bold coloured footwear, I’m fond of the technique of wearing a print which includes the colour of the shoe, but I also like cobalt blue with teal, white or lemon.

  8. Friday Fix: Christian Louboutin Vendome metallic platform peep toes

metallic platform peep toes by Christian Louboutin

    Christian Louboutin red sole

    Christian Louboutin Vendome peep toes

    Christian Louboutin Vendome,£588.30

My last few Friday Fix picks have featured lovely Louboutins from the sparkly, glittery and, er, bridal end of the market, so today I thought I’d keep things a little more classic.

‘Vendome’ is certainly that: these are high heeled platform peep toes in a shape that will be familiar to Louboutin lovers everywhere. I think many people considering investing £588 in a pair of shoes would probably tend to err on the side of caution and go with a style they’d be able to wear again and again, and these are a good choice if that’s what you’re looking for. Although the metallic upper might seem a little too “dressy” for everyday use, I think that with the right outfit, this shade can work well for daytime, although it will really come into its own with evening wear. Speaking of which, if you have a lot of parties or events lined up this year, I think these could probably work for every single one of them.

As a nice little finishing touch, the insoles in these are a pretty, pale blue, rather than the usual beige!

Jimmy Choo green suede shoes with crystal heel

green crystal heel and sole by Jimmy Choo

green suede high heel shoes by Jimmy Choo

    Jimmy Choo ‘Tame’, £1,495

These shoes are called ‘Tame’, which is a little bit of a misnomer, because they’re really anything BUT. In fact, that gem-studded heel, sole and toe is actually a bit on the wild side, don’t you think?

These shoes are another example of a look I’ve really come to love, namely the glitter/jewelled sole. We saw a fair bit of this last winter, and as I said then, I think it makes for a more subtle (but still glamorous) effect than if the same techniques were applied to the upper. In the case of these shoes, not only do I love the colour (they also come in beige, for those of you who don’t), I also really like the way the Swarovski crystals go all the way from the tip of the toe to the end of the heel, almost as if the bottom of the shoe has been crafted from one single, bejewelled sheet of leather.

The fact that these are Swarovski crystals, however, is a sure sign that the price is going to be as high as the heel is. These are £1,495, and available direct from Jimmy Choo.
