Shoeper Style Challenge: What to wear with Kurt Geiger ‘Class’?

kurt geiger class1 Shoeper Style Challenge: What to wear with Kurt Geiger Class?

It’s been a couple of weeks since our last Shoeper Style Challenge, so I thought we’d have a bit of Friday fun and indulge in a quick spot of shoe stylin’.

Now, I had approximately two minutes to choose a pair of shoes for you to style this week, so I instinctively went for my own favourite shoes of the moment: Kurt Geiger’s ‘Class’, which I’d buy in every single colour they come in, if I only could, but which I’ve selected in blue for the purpose of the challenge.

As always, the rules are pretty straightforward:

    1. Create an outfit to wear with these shoes

If you’re using Polyvore, you’ll find the shoes here. (Or type “Kurt Geiger Class” into the Polyvore search.)

    2. Upload your image into the comments section

You’ll find the image uploader at the bottom of the comments form. Please note: you’ll have to save the image to your computer (as a .jpg file) to upload it – Polyvore’s code will not display in our comments field. The comments box will automatically re-size your image, but if you’re trying to upload a really large file, it will reject it, as extra large images will break the site: sorry! You can find lots of free image re-sizing programmes online by searching for “online image resize” or similar.

Ready? Let’s see what you’d wear with these shoes!

H&M blue bow sandals in faux suede

hm blue bow sandals H&M blue bow sandals in faux suedeThese shoes have been reduced to just £12.49, from the not-exactly-bank-breaking original price of £24.99.

From this, you’re probably guessing that they’re not going to be fantastic quality and… well, to be honest, you’re probably right. I absolutely love the look of these when I first spotted them on the H&M website – the cut of the vamp is very elegant, the bow adds frivolity and fun, and the bright blue colour makes me want to do seal claps, that’s how much I love it.

But (you just knew there had to be a “but”, didn’t you?), having seen these shoes in store a couple of times now, I can confirm they they’re not quite as nice in person as they appear in the product shot above. The imitation suede certainly isn’t going to fool anyone into thinking it’s the real thing, and there’s something a little bit flimsy about them.

I still think these could work, though, and for £12.49, at least they’re not going to be an expensive mistake, so I had a quick go at creating a couple of outfits around them, to see if it was possible to make cheap shoes look a little less so. First of all, a dressy look:

I always think a very bright colour like this one should stand alone and be the focal point of the outfit. I’m also currently obsessed with white dresses, which are the perfect summer alternative to the LBD because, like black, they can be accessorised with almost any colour, and always look chic. I like the simplicity of this one from Dorothy Perkins, but I felt like the outfit needed a little more colour to work, so I added an orange clutch bag by Yoshi: blue would’ve been a bit too matchy-matchy, but orange seemed to work. The white cat’s eye sunglasses, meanwhile, were just for fun: I’d pile my hair up, add some lipstick and be good to go!

For a more casual look, meanwhile:

(Blue shoes, H&M; white tank, Topshop; blue slouch bow shorts, Dorothy Perkins; straw fedora, Old Navy; stripe shopper, DVF)

A classic, casual look for a summery lunch, or day spent mooching around a seaside town. I liked the way the bow on the shoes is picked up by the bow on the shorts, and, of course, the vaguely nautical feel of the whole look. (And if you’re not keen on the idea of shorts with heels, fear not – the slouchy cut of these ones makes them really easy to wear without looking trashy, even with a pair of stilettos.

What do you think? Worth splashing out £12 on? And what would you wear with these shoes if you did buy them? (Or if  they just showed up on your door, a gift from your Fairy Shoemother?)
