Organic Cleansers

Skin care is something we all should take care of and not overlook. Surprisingly, it’s the body’s largest organ and plays a very important part in protecting other internal organs. A skincare routine that is used daily can change the health and appearance of your skin. When it comes to an actual step-by-step routine, here is a basic guide to how to take care of your skin:

mother nature

Step one – cleanser: cleanser removes all makeup, cleanses the skin from oils and dirt and allows it to rest and breathe from various products applied to it.

Step two – toner: this product balances and normalizes the skin’s pH level since it is often irritated and disrupted after cleansing. Toner also removes the rest of makeup left on the face.

Step three – exfoliator: there are two types of exfoliation: physical and chemical. Physical exfoliation uses manual exfoliation such as scrubs that get rid of dead skin cells while chemical exfoliators like BHA or AHA acids give more noticeable and quick effects. Exfoliation should be done only twice or three times a week. Try not to overdo it since it can be really damaging to the skin.

Step four – moisturizer: skin should always be hydrated – this is when moisturizers come in handy. They get rid of dry spots and patches and leave the skin feeling smooth and soft. They also help prevent wrinkles and future skin issues. Moisturizer is essential under makeup for it to be applied smoothly.

Step five – sunscreen: a lot of people tend to skip this step – sunscreen also helps prevent wrinkles and protects the skin from harmful UV rays that cause dark spots and discolouration. Remember that it should be used all year round and not only during the summer. Sun rays are present all year long, including the clouding and snowy days.

When it comes to cleansers, they should be used daily to clean the skin from everyday oils, production of sebum and to prevent breakouts. You’d be surprised by how much dirt and oil can be on your face after a long day. Cleansers come in many different forms: liquid, foam, scrub or oil. It all depends on your skin type to decide on which one is best for you. Liquid or gel cleansers are best for everyday, morning and nightly use. They are gentle enough to use twice a day and don’t irritate the skin too much. Scrub cleansers are best for oily or acne-prone skin since they’re more harsh and penetrate deep into the skin. They shouldn’t be used everyday – twice or three times a week is the right amount. Foaming cleaners are more lightweight and gentle – those with more oily skin will also prefer the formula since it isn’t too heavy on the skin. Recently, oil cleansing has also become popular and is used by many people more frequently. It is the process of using an oil to remove all makeup and rewashing the face with a different cleanser to remove the residue the oil leaves. It’s a proper cleansing routine and leaves the skin feeling nourished, soft and clean.

Why use organic products?

Natural and organic products are not only better for your skin, but also for the environment. Toxins and harmful chemicals found in many products can be extremely harmful for the skin and cause short-term or even long-term damage. Organic products contain only beneficial and safe ingredients while also being eco-friendly and cruelty-free most of the time. The high-quality, chemical-free ingredients in organic products won’t be aggressive on the skin – they are delicate, gentle and perfect for sensitive skin.

In general, more and more brands are realising how popular and beneficial organic products are becoming, especially because of their availability on the market. It’s much better to switch to organic products.

Ingredients to avoid:

  • Oxybenzone – it’s linked to hormone disruption and can potentially damage cells which leads to skin cancer
  • Triclosan – it’s linked to have many negative effects on human health. It causes abnormal endocrine system/thyroid hormone signaling and weakening of the immune system. Children exposed to these type of antibacterial products at an early age have an increased chance of developing allergies, eczema and asthma
  • TEA/DEA they’ve been linked to cancer and organ system toxicity. Studies have even found that DEA affects human male reproductive health and alters sperm structure, causing abnormalities that affect the sperm’s abilities. It accumulates in the liver and kidney (this is what causes organ toxicity and neurotoxic effects like tremors). It also affects memory and brain development
  • Petrochemicals – these chemicals help produce lather and bubbles in soap. Some common ones are SLS and SLES. They strip the skin of its natural oils and increase penetration of the skin’s surface
  • Parabens – some parabens can mimic the activity of hormone estrogen in the body’s cells and can form breast tumors. They can also cause a variety of allergic reactions and skin irritation. They may even cause contact dermatitis- a serious skin inflammation that results in rashes, blisters, and burning skin
  • Phthalates – this ingredient combined at low levels can cause much harm. Phthalate exposures in humans has been linked to changes in hormone levels and altered development of genitals
  • Formaldehydes – they cause burning sensations in the nose, eyes and throat as well as coughing, wheezing, nausea and skin irritation. It’s can also cause chest pain, shortness of breath and has been linked to cancer. It’s linked to an increased risk of asthma and allergies in children
  • Sulfates – sulfates cause irritation to the eyes, skin and scalp. They are also very drying and irritating
  • Irritating foaming agents – these include a lot of sulfates and other substances that are extremely drying to the skin.

Avoiding harmful chemicals

It’s not easy completely avoiding harsh ingredients in makeup products. The safest way to be sure you’re using products that are good for your skin is to switch to organic makeup brands. These brands use only all natural, safe, vegan ingredients that are extremely beneficial for the skin. When it comes to certified organic makeup there are plenty of options to choose from.
