I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again (and will probably say it a couple more times before the year is out): I love what Miu Miu have been doing with their glitter-covered soles this season. It’s such a fun, unexpected touch, and it’s also a very easy way to wear glitter: a flash of it on the sole is much more subtle than wearing it all over your shoes!
In this case, however, the sole isn’t just pretty: it’s also the saviour of the shoe. Without it, these shoes would have been much more ordinary, and even a little dated. Pointed toes have definitely made a comeback this year, but they still walk a very fine line between in fashion and old fashioned, and although I have a very large soft spot for red shoes, I think these ones are in danger of crossing that line. (I also think that when it comes to wearing red, suede or matte leather is a safer option than patent, which can look cheap, even when it isn’t.)
I do love that sole, though…
