Mellow Yellow ‘Nuevo‘, £87.50
If you follow me on Instagram, you may already have seen these shoes. They’re Mellow Yellow’s ‘Nuevo’ slingbacks, and they’re my Sarenza Brand Ambassador Pick for July, ordered after a long debate involving whether to go for the green shade pictured, or the bright blue version, which I featured a few weeks ago.
In the end, I loved the blue, but I knew I’d get more use out of the green, so here they are, and my only question now is why on earth I waited so long to order a pair of these? As I noted in my first post, the shape and positioning of the bow is very reminiscent of the Carven bow shoes which were released last year, and I think they’re just as beautiful, with a low cut vamp and high heel.
This is my second pair of shoes by Mellow Yellow, and once again, I’m really impressed by the quality from this brand, which I think is fantastic value for money. These shoes are currently on sale for £87.50, down from the original £125, which is a pretty good deal when you consider the soft suede uppers and real leather soles, which are quite unusual for a pair of shoes at this kind of price-point. The quality of the finish is also really nice on these, and I like the yellow insoles, which are a cute finishing touch.
I ordered these in my usual size EUR 37/UK 4, and would say they fit true to size. Because the uppers are so soft, they also seem like they’ll be very comfortable to wear, although so far I’ve only tested them around the house: I’ll try to rectify that soon!
My favourite thing about these shoes, however, has to be that bow, which you can wear right at the back of the heel, or offset slightly, at the side of the ankle: there’s an elasticated section on the back of the strap to allow you to get them on and off, and the bow won’t slide past that, but you do have a little bit of wiggle room with it, which is nice.
These also come in pink, taupe and the aforementioned blue, and although I still love the latter version, I have to admit to being tempted by the taupe, too. Unfortunately, however, as these are on sale, there are only a few pairs left in some sizes/colours, so if you fancy a pair, you might not want to take too long to make up your mind which ones to go for!
