Dune ‘Salute’ purple suede Mary Janes

purple suede mary janes Dune Salute purple suede Mary Janes

I thought the Dolce & Gabbana Mary Janes I showed you last week would be pretty hard to beat, but actually, this version by Dune comes a pretty close second: not only are they significantly cheaper, at £75, they also come in this glorious purple suede upper, which I find all but impossible to resist in a shoe.

These shoes don’t need any extra embellishments to make them stand out: the colour and shape speak for themselves, and this particular shade of purple will work just as well in the dull winter months as it will right now.

These are £75 at Dune: click here to buy them.

Buffalo red patent ‘Addison’ Mary Janes

red patent mary janes Buffalo red patent Addison Mary Janes

I know quite a few of my readers are Mary Jane fans, so I’m not quite sure why it’s taken me so long to get around to showing you this fabulous example of the style, by Buffalo.

These shoes are also available with a nude upper, but I think this bright red patent has it beat in terms of sheer impact. These combine a 4.3″ heel with a small platform, and look like they’re just begging to be worn with a slick of matching red nail polish. Spartoo describe them as “femme fatale” shoes, and there’s definitely something about this particular shade of red that creates that impression, and ensures there’s absolutely nothing childish about them, as can sometimes be the case with Mary Janes.

Now for the bad news: these pumps are currently only available in limited sizes in this particular colour, so if you love them, click here to find out if your size is one of them,

Dolce & Gabbana leather Mary Jane pumps

Net-a-Porter describe these shoes as “essentials”. Now, I’m not sure $695 shoes are ever really “essential”, but I do see where they’re coming from: these have that perfect Mary Jane shape, and are in a neutral enough colour that I can imagine wearing them over and over again, with lots of different outfits, making them the kind of shoe that becomes a wardrobe staple – and which you mourn when they finally fall apart!

As much as I like the colour it’s just a little too pale to be totally practical for me, so I’d love to see these in some brighter shades. I’m thinking red and green would do for starters, but these are such a great shape, that I can’t think of a colour they wouldn’t look good in.

If you love them in this colour right here, however, you can click here to buy them from Net-a-Porter.

Shoe Kryptonite: Kurt Geiger ‘Class’ peep toe Mary Janes

First I saw these shoes in white:

And I thought, “Wow, that’s a seriously beautiful shoe. If only it wasn’t white, though! I mean, if these were available in green, say, or even blue, I’d be aaaaalllll over them like a rash…”

    Oh.

Oh, God, someone please take them far, far away, because that right there is some Shoe Kryptonite for sure. I mean, they’re not just available in green and blue: they’re available in MINT green. And the PERFECT shade of blue. It’s just all too much for me.

Now, after all of the talking I’ve been doing about my ever-increasing love of mint green, you’ll be expecting me to say that’s the version I like best. I think you might be right there, but at the same time, that particular shade of sky blue is just gorgeous, and I could very easily be swayed by it. In fact, I could very easily be persuaded to buy both… assuming, of course, that it wouldn’t cost me £420 to do it.

Yes, folks, the bad news about these is that they’re £210 per pair, which means I’m about to start stalking Shoeaholics.com, in the hope that they one day go on sale. If you can’t wait that long, however, you can click here to buy them from Kurt Geiger.

Boutique 9 Nikeya blue and green suede peep toes

My first thought upon looking at these shoes? “Wow, Boutique 9 have used my very favourite colourblocking combination on these: it’s as if they’re trying to taunt me!”

My second? “How I wish they had resisted the metal tip on the heels. Why does that single feature have the unique ability to instantly cheapen almost any shoe?”

Metal tips aside, these are a great example of a grown-up Mary Jane – and a much better example of that blue and green combo than the Acne pumps I showed you last week, and which we all agreed were most definitely Shoepervillains!

There are two colourways to choose from here: I know which one I’d go for, but what about you?

You may be experiencing a slight sense of Shoe Deja Vu right now. Don’t worry: if you sit down and take a few deep breaths it will pass, as you realise that, yup, it’s another Miu Miu-inspired peep toe with that distinctive flared heel.

These ones are from A|Wear, which means that they’re definitely a lot more affordable than the designer versions, at £45. They come in bright red and blush-pink patent – two colours guaranteed to give me a headache as I try to decide which pair to go for – and you can click here to buy them.

Blue Mary Jane platform shoes from A|Wear

I know there are quite a few Mary Jane fans amongst my readers, so just for you, here’s a pair of bright blue MJs by A|Wear!

My own main problem with Mary Janes is that the style can look rather childlike at times. Not here, though: the high heel and correspondingly high platform ensure that these look nothing like your old school shoes (unless you went to a much more interesting school than I did, that is!), while the colour… I don’t even need to tell you what I think of this colour, do I?

If you’re not a fan of blue, these also come in pink. They’re £45, and you can click here to buy them.

Steve Madden Bellahh platform Mary Janes

Spartoo is one of only a handful of UK retailers which stocks Steve Madden shoes, so if you’re a UK-based fan of the brand, it’s a good site to keep an eye on. I live in hope of the ‘Prechis‘ (every time I type a Steve Madden model name, I feel obliged to point out that it’s HIS spelling, not mine!) platforms I love so much coming into stock, but until they do, here’s a shoe for the Mary Jane fans among you!

These are called ‘Bellahh’ (groan!) and are another example of a certain fashion trend which I actually can’t bring myself to type out one more time at this point, so let’s just say it starts with “colour” and ends with “block”.

Trendy they may be, however, but a Mary Jane never really goes out of fashion, and the fact that these use black as their main colour also helps to keep them classic.

These are £128, and you can click here to buy them at Spartoo.
