Velvet has never been my favourite fabric. I know it has a very warm, luxurious feel to it, which is why many people love it, but I’ve always found it a little fussy somehow, and while I like it well enough on something like a blazer, say, on shoes it never fails to remind me of slippers.
Well, expect this time. These shoes don’t look much like slippers, do they? (And, actually, if slippers generally looked like this, I’d possibly even be persuaded to buy myself a pair!) They have high heels, pointed toes, a glamorous, d’orsay cut side, and that oversized bow to finish it all off. Add in the bright red colour (they also come in black, should you prefer it), and you have all of the ingredients for an awesome winter party shoe.
I love the shape and colour of these, but have to admit that I’d love them that bit more if they were suede, say, or maybe satin. The velvet, while very winter-appropriate, is just a little bit “off”, somehow, and, for me, the slightly ‘furry’ look is at odds with the sophistication of the shape. With that said, this is still a lovely shoe, complete with the knotted bow that Kurt Geiger does so well. Here’s how I’d wear them:
