Boottights: tights made especially for boots

boot tights Boottights: tights made especially for bootsI don’t know about you, but when I wear knee high boots with tights, I almost always end up adding a pair of socks over the tights, purely to keep my feet warm, or make the inside of the boots feel a little more comfortable. And, of course, that can be a little inconvenient: sometimes the socks will slide down, or bunch up, or otherwise make a nuisance of themselves, so it’s little wonder that someone eventually decided to come up with a simple solution.

That “someone” was Boottights founder Shelby Mason, and her solution was a simple one: take a pair of tights, stick a pair of socks on the end, et voila! A pair of tights that are custom made to wear with boots!

Shelby called her creation Boottights, and is now selling them in a range of different patterns via her website, which you can find here.

Ankle socks and heels: Sophie Ellis-Bextor loves the look, but do you?

LFI SAMSUNGPARTY002 Ankle socks and heels: Sophie Ellis Bextor loves the look, but do you?

What does everyone think of the pairing of socks and heels?

In general, I’ve always felt that, if you’re past a certain age, ankle socks really belong under trousers. Sure, the very young, and very trendy can often get away with them – and even look good in them – but on the rest of us? We’re going to look like overgrown toddlers, aren’t we? Sad, but true.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor, however, clearly disagrees: she wore the outfit above  to a Samsung TV party in London this week, and chose to pair her ankle socks with white button-front Mary Janes: a style of shoe which can, in itself, be a little bit infantilizing if you’re not careful how you wear it.

What do you think of this look? Would you wear ankle socks with heels?

Bebaroque’s £80 bow tights

bebaroque bow tights Bebaroques £80 bow tightsI did a little squee of joy when I first came across these Bebaroque tights – they’re just so totally the kind of thing I like. Then I looked at the price and did a little “ooh!” of horror – the black pair are £80, while the pink ones, for some reason, are less expensive at £70, but still the price of a pair of shoes (or two, depending on where you get them from.)

Now, I’m way too accident prone to ever be able to justify spending that much on something I’d be highly likely to ruin within seconds of putting them on, but even if I wasn’t, I’m still not sure I’d want to splash £80 on tights. If you would, however, you can get these ones, and other Bebaroque designs, at ASOS.

Indigo Peacock Feather Tights from Modcloth

If I could, I would buy just about everything Modcloth has to sell. Seriously, I love it. Sadly, though, I can’t justify buying anything new at all this week, so I’m trying to content myself with just looking as these wonderful peacock feather tights. They’re expensive for tights, at $29.99 (especially if, like me, you have an over enthusiastic dog who likes to stick his claws into things), but they’ll make even the most boring shoes look a little bit special.

Miu Miu embellished cotton knee socks cost more than most shoes

miu miu socks Miu Miu embellished cotton knee socks cost more than most shoesBecause what you wear WITH your shoes can be almost as important as the shoes themselves (Nah, not really, but let’s pretend…), today I bring you these Miu Miu socks, which, as you can see, are embellished with lots of little sequins and other things, and…

OK, I have to ask: HOW DO YOU WASH THEM? How? Without all of those bits coming off? Are you supposed to send your SOCKS to the dry cleaners now? Did I hear something about a recession, or did I just imagine that?

As well as being covered in sequins, these socks are also £245, which means they cost less than most shoes, unless, of course, you’re in the habit of always buying designer. Umm, wow.

Would you pay £245 for a pair of socks, folks? If so, get them at Net-a-Porter…
