Nelly ‘Jade’ pumps with asymmetric sides

mint green shoes Nelly Jade pumps with asymmetric sides

I know: I laid off the mint shoes for at least a couple of weeks, and then I bring you two pairs within a few hours of each other. Sorry. There was just no way I could resist showing you these particular ones, though: I mean, mint green, toe-cap, almost the same shape as my beloved Ones That Got Away from Zara? Yes, these were always destined to end up on Shoeperwoman.com.

Actually, over the past few weeks I’ve seen this shape from multiple different brands: it seems I’m not the only one who really liked those shoes! Unfortunately, while there’s no shortage of the basic style, none of them have managed to get it quite right: the sides of the Zara shoes were much steeper than any of the newer versions, with the asymmetric side sloping all the way down to the sole. That’s what made those shoes so special, and is why none of the others have quite measured up.

That said, these ones are definitely my favourites so far. They’re by Swedish brand Nelly, which you’ve probably been hearing a lot about recently if you follow fashion blogs: the brand has just launched a UK version of their website, and I’ve spent many a happy hour minute browsing through their wares, which have the advantage of being very reasonably priced. These shoes, for instance, are just £41.95, and are also available in black, white and tan, all of which come with metallic toe-caps in either silver or gold.

Anyone shopped from Nelly? What did you think?

    Topshop ‘Palais’ layered metallic wedges

In my ongoing quest to show you all the mint shoes in all the world, I somehow managed to overlook Topshop’s ‘Palais’ wedges. I’m correcting that now, because although these are a little too “Friday night at the disco” for my tastes, they are definitely show-stoppers:

    That’s a whole lotta look, isn’t it?

These obviously won’t be to everyone’s taste – I think they have a bit of a Terry de Havilland feel to them, with the layered wedge, but the slightly orthopaedic look of the criss-cross upper puts me off a little.

These are £85 at Topshop: click here to buy them.

KG by Kurt Geiger ‘Marilyn’ high heeled mules

kurt geiger marilyn mules KG by Kurt Geiger Marilyn high heeled mules

The Kurt Geiger website currently refers to mules as “the shoe of the season”, and to prove it, their ‘Marilyn’ mule (above) comes in three different colours: black, red and peach.

Now, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for mules, at least as far as appearances go. I like the 50s feel of them, and ones like these, which come with big bows, glitter, and satin uppers, are definitely very glam. While it’s not like me to consider comfort when I’m shoe shopping, though, I have to admit that mules aren’t always the easiest shoes to actually wear, and I always worry about sliding right out of them – or having to walk along with the heel of the shoe slapping against my foot with every step.

What do you think? Are these really the “shoes of the season”? If you answered “yes”, you can click here to buy a pair: they’re £140 at Kurt Geiger.

‘Dominique’ pink ribbon ballet flats from Miss Selfridge

pink ribbon ballet flats Dominique pink ribbon ballet flats from Miss Selfridge

I’m really surprised by the number of pairs of ballet flats I’ve been finding myself wanting to buy recently. Generally speaking, I tend to scroll right past flat shoes in my search for shoeper stilettos, but lately I’ve found quite a few which have made me stop in my tracks and reach for that “buy now” button.

I haven’t actually clicked that button, mind you. As I mentioned in this post, I’ve come to realise that flats always look better in my mind than they do on my feet, but I can’t say I’m not tempted by Miss Selfridge’s ‘Dominique‘. These are £25, and as adorable as it gets. The scalloped edges, woven through with pink ribbon, make them super-feminine, while the soft pink uppers give them a true “ballet shoe” feel, which will appeal to frustrated ballerinas such as myself.

These are available now at Miss Selfridge: click here to buy them.

J Crew ‘Mona’ anchor printed pumps

I’m a little bit obsessed with J Crew right now (in fact, I may or may not have taken advantage of their free UK delivery offer last month to place a sneaky little order): their preppy, clean-cut aesthetic just really appeals to me at the moment, and these anchor-printed ‘Mona’ pumps tap right into my love of all things nautical.

What I love most about these is that, despite the whimsical print, they still manage to remain quite understated: I’m often often in danger of looking like I’m in fancy dress as a sailor (especially at this time of year, when so many retailers decide to get their “nautical” on…), but these could easily be worn with a shift dress or pencil skirt and look sophisticated rather than costumey. They’d also look fantastic with jeans, shorts or tailored trousers, for an elegant, summer look.

While the anchor print version is definitely my favourite, though, the ‘Mona’ pumps are worth checking out in some of the other available colours, too. For instance, this:

… is a more or less perfect “nude” pump, no?

    River Island two-tone strappy sandals

The very sight of these shoes makes me want to immediately rush out and get a pedicure, but assuming I could get my mind past the idea of the OMGEXPOSEDFEET, I really like the colours used on these two-tone sandals from River Island - even the neon yellow, which is something I never thought I’d hear myself say. Because of the barely-there look of these, though, the dash of colour is just enough to be interesting without being overpowering – or to give you too many flashbacks to the later 80s/early 90s.

Simple, summery and stylish, these are £55 at River Island: click here to buy them.

Miss Selfridge ‘Windsor’ nude corsage wedges

miss selfridge windsor wedges Miss Selfridge Windsor nude corsage wedges

My search for neutral coloured wedges continues with Miss Selfridge’s ‘Windsor’ wedges. These caught my eye over the weekend, not just because of the colour (or the lack of colour?), but because of the pretty little bow on the toe, and the woven sole. These say “summer picnic” to me, and would be the perfect sidekick to a sun dress, or even a pair of shorts: comfortable enough for a stroll in the sun or a spot of sightseeing, neutral enough not to detract from the colourful prints we tend to see at this time of year, and pretty enough to satisfy my shoe-loving soul.

One word of warning: although these are described as “nude” on the Miss Selfridge website and look nude in the photo above, I noticed that one of the user reviews on the site says they’re more of a gold colour in real life (Aside: don’t you just love websites which allow buyers to post reviews of the items? I’m always disappointed when a site doesn’t have these now – they can be indispensable if you’re wondering which size to go to, or what the colour/fabric is like in real life). That wouldn’t necessarily put me off, because I have a large space in my heart for gold shoes, but it might mean you’d be better checking these out in store if you think it would bother you.

If you want to go ahead and order online, however, they’re £48 and you can click here to buy them.

    Zara colourblock platform sandals

zaar colourblock platforms Zara colourblock platform sandals

With many shoe makers rejecting chunky shapes and huge platforms in favour of more “ladylike” pointed toes and stilettos, Zara seems to have gone the other way, and while the Spanish retailer has its fair share of pointed court shoes right now, they also have quite a few styles like the one shown above, featuring a colourblocked upper on top of a platform that just seems to go up, and up and up…

Along similar lines, but with a slimmer heel, are these:

which also come in bright yellow:
