    Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Neon Lace’ sandals

    by

nicholas kirkwood neon lace Nicholas Kirkwood Neon Lace sandals

If I was going to wear neon (and, just to be clear, I’m not) I think this is definitely the way I’d do it. Sure, the yellows and pinks used on Nicholas Kirkwood’s ‘Neon Lace’ sandals are definitely bright, but somehow the combination of the two, and the floral pattern, tones the overall effect down a little, leaving you with a pretty summer sandal which taps into the current trend for neon (if that’s important to you) without being overwhelmed by it.

The lace mentioned in the name of these shoes is the pink overlay on top of the yellow leather: an interesting touch, which makes these just a little different from many of the other floral prints that are around right now.

These are £649 at Far Fetch: click here to buy them.

Charlotte Olympia ‘Valentine’ heart appliqué suede pumps

charlotte olympia valentine heart shoes Charlotte Olympia Valentine heart appliqué suede pumps

This is the second pair of Charlotte Olympia heart-embellished shoes I’ve shown you this year, and with every pair the brand produces, my love for them grows.

These ‘Valentine’ pumps have the classic, Charlotte Olympia platform, topped with a fabulous suede upper, consisting of lots and lots of hearts in various shades or red and pink. They’re bold, whimsical, and possibly a little OTT for some tastes, but that really sums up Charlotte Olympia perfectly doesn’t it?

It’s a little early for Valentine’s day, but never too soon to fall in love with a pair of shoes (sorry, I couldn’t resist), so if you want to grab a pair of these, you can click here to buy them at Net-a-Porter, where they’re $1,450.

Friday Fix: Christian Louboutin ‘Alti’ spiked pumps

I’ve shown you Christian Loubotin’s ‘Alti’ pumps before, but I haven’t shown you the all black version, and that’s enough of an excuse for me!

I’ve loved all of the various incarnations of this shoe, but of all the colours its been available in, I think this is probably the most versatile: the fact that the studs are the same colour as the upper, and the upper is a classic black, means that while there’s a little less “wow” factor than you’d find with the gold-studded version, for instance, they’re also going to be easier to wear. In fact, at first glance, the impression is mostly of texture: It’s only when you take a closer look that you realise those are some pretty lethal looking spikes: a nice little “surprise”, and a great twist on the classic black pump.

Casdei ‘Agathe’ red patent point-toed peep toes

casadei agathe red pumps Casdei Agathe red patent point toed peep toes

Well, if ever there was a shoe that deserved the title “killer heels”, I think Casadei’s ‘Agathe’ pumps would be it!

I know the very pointed toes on these will be a deal-breaker for many of you, but they’re the very thing that gives these shoes that rather “dangerous”, overtly sexy look that makes them stand out so much from the crowd. Of course, the bright red uppers and stiletto heel add to that effect too: they’re true “vamp” shoes, complete with lipstick red upper and spike heel.

Despite the appearance of these shoes, the heel is just a touch over 4″, which, although high, isn’t shockingly high, and is actually quite a bit lower than many of of the shoes I show you. This means that although they look dangerous, they should hopefully be easier to walk in than you might think. That’s not to say that people won’t stare at them, though: these are the kind of shoes that are designed to attract a LOT of attention!

These are £315 at Spartoo: click here to buy them.

Alaïa Paille Glamour embellished raffia and suede wedge sandals

If, like me, one of your first orders of business every morning is to load up the Net-a-Porter website and drool over the beautiful shoes you find there, you won’t be the slightest bit surprised to find these Alaïa wedges featuring here today. These were definitely the stand-out shoe of yesterday’s new product drop, and although the $1,765 price tag puts them firmly into the “fantasy” league for most of us, the sight of them definitely helped brighten up a dull Thursday morning for me.

These feature a raffia upper (another reason why the price tag is too high for me – raffia just isn’t a fabric I can keep looking fresh for very long!) with suede trim and gold studs. The wavy trim is obviously the main feature of these shoes, with the 6.5″ heel coming a close second:

B Brian Atwood Francoise Crystal-Detail Suede Platform Pum

Capture B Brian Atwood Francoise Crystal Detail Suede Platform Pum

These shoes are one of those “have to be seen from the back” numbers. That’s not because the front is unremarkable: on the contrary, the green suede upper on these is right up my street, and I’d probably still have liked them even if they didn’t come with a generous smattering of crystals all over the platform and heel.

But if you thought the front of these shoes was nice, you just HAVE to see the back:

See what I mean? I love it when designers carry some kind of detail from the upper through onto the sole like this: it’s the kind of attention to detail that really helps to set a shoe apart, and while the concept of crystals on the soles of my shoes would probably have me terrified of ruining them, I think the arch is so far from the ground in this case, thanks to the generous platform, that it needn’t be too much of a concern. You might want to steer clear of cobbles in them, though…

These are by B Brian Atwood and they’re $395 at Neiman Marcus: click here to buy a pair.

    Balenciaga Winged Woven Sandals

balenciaga winged boots Balenciaga Winged Woven Sandals

I have to admit, I’ve always rather liked the idea of wings on the feet: well, it’s a very “shoeperhero” kind of idea, no?

As for the wings on these feet – or these shoes, rather – they’re by Balenciaga, they’re $2,950, and they combine that dramatic, winged upper with an interesting, cut-out heel, which is similar to the one on the Balenciaga boots I showed you last week.

I think these could look absolutely amazing on the right person, with the right outfit. Unfortunately that person isn’t me, but if you want it to be YOU, you can click here to buy these at Barney’s.

Blink gingham wedges in red and blue

    by

gingham wedge sandals Blink gingham wedges in red and blue

My obsession with gingham print continues… I think I probably have a little bit too much of it in my closet right now, if I’m totally honest, but there’s no such thing as “too much” when it comes to shoes, so here are Blink’s platform wedges, which come in your choice of blue or red gingham print.

Once you get past the inevitable picnic blanket/OMGPLATFORM comments that these initially bring to mind, you’re left with what I tend to think of as a “vacation shoe”. I wouldn’t get a whole lot of use out of them here at home (or not unless the weather took an unexpectedly summery turn, that is), but they’re the kind of shoes I can’t do without on a summer holiday, when I want to be able to walk a lot, but still wear shoes with a bit of height and a bit of “oomph” to them.

I’d go for the red version, because it’s my perfect summer neutral, but the blue is also cute. They’re £50 per pair, and available at Debenhams: click here to buy them.
