Full coverage organic foundation

It’s fun to play with colours and glitter in makeup, but who doesn’t like having an even, smooth base? Foundation is one of the most essential parts of a makeup look. It evens out the skin tone and blurs imperfections. Since it is the product that is applied to our whole face, it’s important to know what is in the ingredients. Many foundations contain harmful chemicals and toxins that are absorbed into the blood and can cause negative long-term effects.

Harmful chemicals

It’s best to avoid these ingredients in product descriptions:

  • Parabens– preservatives that are used to prevent the growth of bacteria in makeup products. Once the skin absorbs and transmits them into the bloodstream, they can cause early puberty and breast cancer.
  • Heavy metals– chrome and nickel are two heavy metals found in many different types of makeup. They are neurotoxins that can even cause brain damage and lung cancer.
  • Phthalates– a group of chemicals that can be disruptive to the endocrine system that’s responsible for hormone production. This can lead to developmental, reproductive, and neurological damage.
  • Lead– it’s found in foundation, lipstick and many other different products. It’s a proven neurotoxin that’s linked to miscarriage, reduced fertility, and delays of puberty for females. Many brands have been tested by the FDA and have been found to contain up to 7.19ppm of lead.
  • Butylated compounds (BHA, BHT)- a very unhealthy ingredient that is a preservative and is found in a dozen of products. It’s found in cosmetics like lipsticks, lip glosses, foundations, soaps, and even food. These toxins are endocrine disruptors and can induce skin allergies.
  • Siloxanes– a paraben used in cosmetics to soften and moisten their formula. They disrupt the endocrine system and are toxic to the reproductive system.
  • Synthetic fragrances- these can be highly irritating for the skin. Many unidentified chemicals can cause allergies, migraines, asthma, skin irritation and many more triggering effects.
  • Talc- commonly found in shampoos, foundations, lotions, eye shadows, and lipsticks. The inhalation of talc can cause respiratory disorders since it gets clogged up in our lungs. It’s also strongly associated with ovarian cancer.

Why you should go organic

You’re probably shocked about all the harmful ingredients found in so many cosmetics widely available at the drugstore. We are exposed to hundreds of these chemicals in our everyday lives during our morning or night routine. Switching to organic products can significantly improve your skin and protect your future health.

Your skin is gentle

It may seem like your skin can handle anything, but it’s actually really fragile and sensitive. You should be very careful with what you apply to your skin. Organic makeup contains nutrients that are amazing for your skin. Some nourishing minerals and botanicals that protect your skin include tea tree oil, magnesium, calcium, green tea, essential oils and natural pigments. If you notice redness on your skin after using certain products, it shows that you have sensitive skin and should use products that are gentle and improve your skin’s condition.

Prevent premature signs of aging

Organic cosmetics don’t contain any chemicals or fillers that accelerate the rate of aging. All products applied onto the face are absorbed into the skin and can clog pores which leads to blemishes, acne and emphasises wrinkles. Wrinkles are more visible when using products that contain waxes and silicones that settle into the skin. You should also use products that help to protect from sun damage and slow down aging. Organic makeup also has natural ingredients that help boost collagen production and help with efficient cell turnover.

Be eco-friendly

Many chemicals we use daily pollute our water which ends with the lives of animals and plants being taken. They harm our planet and can end up causing oil spills and different harmful chain reactions. Organic cosmetics never include synthetic chemicals or fertilisers which are destructive to our environment. Organically grown plants are also guaranteed to work well with your skin and don’t contain harsh chemicals. Most packaging of organic products is also recyclable and eco-friendly.

Repair your skin

Most of use a few layers of cosmetics each day, whether it be makeup or skin care products. All of these products actively seep into our skin, and our skin can react badly to it. They can cause breakouts, rashes or redness. Using organic products helps make your skin feel more balanced and nourished. Natural ingredients have soothing properties, so you won’t need to worry about bad reactions or annoying breakouts.

Protect your skin from the sun

Some main ingredients found in makeup that protect your skin from the sun include zinc oxide, titanium oxide, and iron oxide. These all decrease the risk of skin cancer. Not only do they last longer, but they also protect against UVA rays and UVB rays. Sun damage also causes early aging, sun spots and wrinkles, which is why you should always use sun protection.

Foundation 101

If you want to achieve a flawless-looking face, foundation is an essential element. It’s what lies underneath all of your other makeup and is the canvas for different colours.

You choose your foundation based on the type and colour of your skin. When it comes to finishes, there are a few for all of the different skin types. Matte foundations are best for oily skin, and moisturising foundations are best for dry skin. A factor you should also take into consideration is the type of coverage you’d like. A full-coverage foundation is great for covering dark spots, acne, and scars. Lighter coverage is best for a natural finish and skin-like appearance.
