$547 for Havaianas flip-flops? Seriously?

havaianas flip flops by pinel pinel1 $547 for Havaianas flip flops? Seriously?

If you read The Fashion Police, you may have already seen these, but I couldn’t resist posting them here, too, because these? Are $547 flip-flops. Yes. Can you EVEN?

Now, as you all know, I have a pair of regular Havaianas, which I paid $8 for on sale, and which I like just fine. I wouldn’t want to pay any more than that for them, though, and I definitely wouldn’t want to pay $547 for them, even although some of the proceeds from their sale is going to Greenpeace (who I would imagine may well have some issues with the fact that the thong is made from crocodile skin, too.). I’d rather just make a donation, thanks.

Presumably, however, there must be people in the world who think this is a good deal. Are you one of them Get them at Colette, if so.

New “Shoes”! Gold Havaianas flip-flops

If you read my Holiday Shoes post last month, you’ll know that as well as buying a pair of flip-flops while I was on vacation, I also took a pair with me. The last thing I needed, then, was another pair of flip-flops.

BUT.

For years now, I’ve heard people talking about how comfortable Havaianas are. And while navy and black  are all well and good, I kept finding myself hankering after the more versatile gold flip-flops I’d had to throw out last year, which is how I came to find myself standing in line at Macy’s and purchasing yet another pair of flip-flops.

In my defence, they were only $8 in the sale. And I am crazy.

Anyway, it turned out to be a fairly useful purchase, because I got a lot of wear out of them on holiday, and have been wearing them around the house, too, since I got home. They’re the kind of shoes you can throw on and not have to worry about getting them wet, or hurting your feet, and that, after all, is what flip-flops are all about.

Are they they most comfortable flip-flops in the world? Nah. I mean, sure, they’re comfortable, but as far as I can tell, they’re not much more comfortable than any other flip-flops I’ve owned, which confirms what I’ve long suspected about these shoes. Still, I’m pleased I bought them – there’s always room for another pair of shoes in the Shoeper Shoe Closet. Just don’t tell Shoeperman I said that…

New Shoes! Black and white polka dot flip flops

polka dot flip flops New Shoes! Black and white polka dot flip flopsI didn’t include flip-flops in my Shoe Challenge because, well, they’re not really much of a challenge, are they? For me, flip-flops don’t really fall into the category of shoes-you-build-outfits-around. They’re just the shoes you wear to the beach, or while you’re slobbing out at home: no challenge, and not a whole lot of fun, either.

Or so I thought.

Then I walked into a surf shop in Cocoa Beach, and discovered these little black and white flip-flops waiting to be bought. And when you see what I happened to be wearing that day, you may just understand why I couldn’t resist them:

Musa turquoise and crystal-studded leather sandals

musa turquise flip flops Musa turquoise and crystal studded leather sandalsCan you even imagine paying £235 for a pair of flip-flops, no matter how nice they were? I can’t, but then again, I can’t really imagine paying more than £20 for a pair of flip-flops, so I guess I’m just not part of the target market for these Musa sandals. Sure, they’re pretty, but for me flip-flops are the kind of summer-holiday shoe that always ends up looking slightly the worse for wear by the end of the vacation, with lots of sand, and scrapes and sun oil all over them, so they’re not exactly what I’d term an “investment” shoe. Still, there are apparently people in the world who would think nothing of dropping £235 on a pair of flip-flops, and if you’re one of them, you can buy them at Net-a-Porter. Personally, I’d rather have three pairs of shoes from Office, or Dune or wherever for the same price, but hey, different strokes shoes for different folks…

Nautical bow seagrass flip-flops from Accesorize

nautical flip flops Nautical bow seagrass flip flops from AccesorizeThe trusty old leather flip flops that have seen me through the last three summers finally gave up the ghost during my last holiday, but luckily I think I may have found just the pair to replace them with. These seagrass thongs won’t be quite as hard-wearing as my old faithfuls, but I think their appearance makes up for it: the bow, the anchor and the navy and red colours are all just crying out to be worn with my navy and white shorts and dresses, and will be lightweight enough not to take up too much of my luggage allowance either. What’s more, they’re also very budget-friendly, at just £12. Get them here.

Flower embellished thong sandals from River Island

flower embellished thong sa Flower embellished thong sandals from River IslandYou know Spring is on its way (And THANK GOD for that, I say!) when every second shoe you see has a great big flower attached to it somewhere.

These thong sandals are from River Island, and are reminiscent of similar styles by likes of Giuseppe Zannoti from a couple of years back. The frugal part of me says that if you really wanted to get this look, it would be simple enough to buy a fabric flower (You can usually find them attached to hair bands in places like Claire’s Accessories, or, indeed, the accessories section of most high street stores) and stick them onto a pair of flip flops yourself. The lazy part of me, on the other hand, says “True, but if you can’t be bothered doing that, you can just buy these ones for £29.99 at River Island.”

Valentino bow thong sandals

valentino bow thong sandals Valentino bow thong sandalsI know flip-flops aren’t exactly practical at the moment for those of us in the Northern hemisphere, but as readers of my personal blog might know, I’m heading off to the sun (or at least I hope there’ll be sun) to relax for a couple of weeks, so I’m finding myself once again drawn to unseasonable shoes!

These pink flip-flops are by Valentino, and feature the famous Valentino bow on the front. I, of course, love them, but at $171.29 is waaaay more than I’m in the habit of spending on flip-flops, so these must remain a fantasy purchase for me. If you want to make them a reality, however, they’re also available in black, and you can buy them at Nordstrom.

Leighton Meester and Blake Lively take a flip-flop break on the Gossip Girl set

Now, we all know Blair Waldorf wouldn’t be seen dead in a pair of rubber flip-flops (especially not in the middle of Manhattan!), but Leighton Meester and Blake Lively have no such qualms: here they are giving their feet a break from heels during a filming break on the Gossip Girl set, before slipping back into their shoes when the cameras start to roll.

Outfit shot under the jump: I love Serena’s blue shoes in this picture!
