Giuseppe Zanotti studded toe cap ballet flats

giuseppe zanotti ballet flats Giuseppe Zanotti studded toe cap ballet flats

Leave it to good ol’ Giuseppe Zanotti to give a little bit of bite to the classic ballet flat.

At £380, these are way, WAY more than I’d ever pay for a pair of flats – in fact, you’d have to knock one digit off the end of that figure to get me to even consider it. But the studded toe caps on these are completely covetable (and just a little bit lethal looking. OK, a big bit.) and that’s why, in the entirely fictional world inside my head, in which £380 magically becomes a reasonable price to pay for a pair of flats, I’d totally buy these.

In real life, meanwhile? Not a chance. But if you want to, you can do it here.

Kurt Geiger ‘Doll’ oversized bow flats

Now, I’m not sure how practical these shoes would be: being the clumsy sort, I have visions of me either tripping over that bow and falling flat on my face (If I’m going to fall over my feet, I can guarantee I’ll be wearing flats when I do it) or just dragging it along the ground and ruining it. I also can’t say I’d rush out and buy them myself, because £120 is WAY more than I’m prepared to pay for a pair of flats.

Still, though, I wouldn’t be me if I was able to resist the sight of a giant bow on a shoe, and the fact that this one is attached to a flat rather than to a heel doesn’t make it any less attractive. In fact, if ever there was a shoe that said “Take me out partying: now!” this would be the one.

‘Dominique’ pink ribbon ballet flats from Miss Selfridge

pink ribbon ballet flats Dominique pink ribbon ballet flats from Miss Selfridge

I’m really surprised by the number of pairs of ballet flats I’ve been finding myself wanting to buy recently. Generally speaking, I tend to scroll right past flat shoes in my search for shoeper stilettos, but lately I’ve found quite a few which have made me stop in my tracks and reach for that “buy now” button.

I haven’t actually clicked that button, mind you. As I mentioned in this post, I’ve come to realise that flats always look better in my mind than they do on my feet, but I can’t say I’m not tempted by Miss Selfridge’s ‘Dominique‘. These are £25, and as adorable as it gets. The scalloped edges, woven through with pink ribbon, make them super-feminine, while the soft pink uppers give them a true “ballet shoe” feel, which will appeal to frustrated ballerinas such as myself.

These are available now at Miss Selfridge: click here to buy them.

Red Herring light pink sequin bow flats

It’s not often I find myself drooling over a pair of flats – in fact, I think this may be a first – but I like these Red Herring ones so much that I think some drooling may be in order, don’t you?

These are just so pretty and girlie that it would be hard for me not to like them. The pale pink upper and matching glitter bows have a very delicate, “special occasion” kind of feel, but while these would be perfect party shoes for those of you don’t want to wear heels, one of the other advantages of flats is that they’re a little easier to “dress down” than heels: I can just as easily imagine wearing these with a pair of jeans and a plain white t-shirt as with a pretty party dress, and as they’re just £18, you needn’t feel too guilty about not keeping them for “best” either.

Shoe Save # 3/100: OMG, Flats!

red polka dot flats Shoe Save # 3/100: OMG, Flats!

SHOES: Red Buffalo polka dot flats (c/o Spartoo) [available here]
OUTFIT (not photographed): Citizens of Humanity jeans (c/o Shopbop); H&M stripe top; New Look camel jacket

Well, I’m only three days into the Challenge, and here I am wearing flats: it’s like I’m a whole different person, no? OK, maybe not: they are red flats, after all. With bows. And polka dots. Still, flats they are, and the fact that you’re seeing them on my feet (and out of doors, into the bargain) is a clear sign that today was a day in which I did nothing more exciting than walking the dog, and running some errands en route. And I haven’t been feeling great today, so I wore my standard “casual” uniform in which to do it: skinny jeans, stripey sweater, blogger bun. Some days you just want no-fuss comfort, don’t you?

These shoes are by Buffalo, and this was actually their first outing. It was enough to tell me that I may have to snip the elastic at the heel, because it didn’t take long for it to start to rub: a problem I often have with this style of shoe. (And does it stop me buying them? Of COURSE not!) Other than that, I’m sure these will be good for many more dog walking outings and other casual days!

P.S. I’m not the only one who’s been saving shoes today: check out more Shoeper Saves in our forum, here!

ASOS ‘Loveboat’ boat shoes with heart detail

asos boat shoes ASOS Loveboat boat shoes with heart detail

Despite my love of all things nautical, I’m not a fan of boat shoes. At all, in fact. So, why am I showing you these ones from ASOS? Because these ones are the only deck shoes I’ve ever seen which I can actually imagine myself wearing. I’m not saying I’m going to rush out and buy them, and start wearing them when I’d normally wear stilettos, you understand. But if, say, I was invited on a boat trip (Yes, I know, it’s probably not going to happen, but I like to have a sartorial plan in place for every eventuality. You just never know when you’re going to be invited to lunch on someone’s yacht, do you?), and I knew I’d have to wear somewhat “sensible” shoes… I would rush out and buy these ones. Because they’re only £20, they’re pink and blue and unashamedly “cute”, and they have a loveheart detail on the vamp:

I’d wear them with a little white mini dress, or possibly cropped pants in the same colour. No, don’t tell me white isn’t practical on yachts, I’m not listening. Look, I’m sacrificing my heels here, what more do you want from me?

Wow, I’m so glad I have that “yacht” outfit sorted! You still won’t be seeing me in loafers any time soon, though.

(Click here to buy these at ASOS.)

P.S. I should probably make it clear that the above scenario was just supposed to be a joke: sometimes I like creating fantasy outfits for scenarios that will never happen to me – in those situations, anything goes!

    ASOS ‘Loveheart’ toecap ballerina flats

asos loveheart ballet flats ASOS Loveheart toecap ballerina flats

You know, there are so many pairs of cute flats around right now that even I’m in danger of becoming converted.

OK, not really: I’ll probably always love my heels.

I must admit, though, that if these pink and gold ‘Loveheart’ flats weren’t already sold out in my size, they’d possibly find themselves sneaking into my shopping basket as part of my next ASOS.com order. Well, it’s hard to resist a £20 pair of shoes, especially a pair covered in hearts, which seem to be a weakness of mine where flats are concerned. And where everything else is concerned, too, really…

These are also available in nude and black, and most sizes are still available in those shades.

New Look blue and gold ballet flats

new look ballet flats New Look blue and gold ballet flats

Earlier this week I was extolling the virtues of New Looks £7 ballet flats, and now here I am showing you a pair which cost a “whopping” £15.99. Which, OK, is still very affordable, isn’t it? This is why New Look tends to be my go-to for flats: I don’t wear them often enough to spend a lot of money on them, and they always have such a huge collection of colours and styles that you can splash out on two or three of them, and still not spend very much.

These particular shoes appealed to me because they’re a slightly dressier flat than most, and the blue and gold colours look particularly nice together (these also come in coral and black). These are from the Wide Fit range at New Look: I don’t think I have particularly wide feet, but I’ve bought flats from this range in the past, and haven’t had an issues with them (I find my feet spread out more in flats, and sometimes leave me between sizes in them: the four will be too small, and the five too large, so a wide-fit size four is sometimes the answer), so I wouldn’t rule them out, even if you don’t normally shop in this section. (I actually try not to rule ANYTHING out when I’m shopping: you never really know what’s going to  work!)
