These are Carvela’s ‘Anyone’ pumps, and while they’re not my favourite polka dot shoe of the season (Don’t ask me what is, though: let’s just say it’s been a good year for women who love polka dots too much…), they are very cute, and as much as I love the brighter colours of Spring and Summer, it’s nice to see this kind of print on a black upper for a change, too. These shoes are also available with a nude upper, but I think this bright red patent has it beat in terms of sheer impact. These combine a 4.3″ heel with a small platform, and look like they’re just begging to be worn with a slick of matching red nail polish. Spartoo describe them as “femme fatale” shoes, and there’s definitely something about this particular shade of red that creates that impression, and ensures there’s absolutely nothing childish about them, as can sometimes be the case with Mary Janes. But the studded toe caps on these are completely covetable (and just a little bit lethal looking. OK, a big bit.) and that’s why, in the entirely fictional world inside my head, in which £380 magically becomes a reasonable price to pay for a pair of flats, I’d totally buy these. I can, however, deal with them in very small doses, with these River Island sandals representing the outer limit of my tolerance for neon. I wouldn’t just “tolerate” these shoes, though: I actually really like them, and think the addition of the neon heel and strap is a good one in this case – imagine how much duller these shoes would be without it! I also like the contrast of leather and suede, which is something that almost always appeals to me. My only issue with these? These combine yellow, lilac, pink, peach and green, which will at least give you lots of options when it comes to choosing an outfit to wear with them: black, white, or some other block colour would be the most obvious choices, of course, but you can also just take your pick of one (or more) of the six colours on the upper, and go with that. And this time, rather than place the bow on the toe, where shoe designers usually land it, Office have gone for the lesser-spotted “bow on the side” look with these ‘Kind’ peep toes. These come in taupe and fuchsia, and both colours will work well with a summer wedding outfit, or with most of the season’s dresses: I think the pink version would look particularly nice with florals, or you could also go with some contrasting bold colours if you fancy doing a bit of colourblocking.
