I absolutely love these ‘Imogen’ sandals by Moda in Pelle, which may not seem like too much of a budget pick at £85, but which are at least considerably less than the designer option many brides go for. I don’t think many people could tell the difference, either: these have lots of style, a sophisticated shape, and I really like the fact that the bow embellishment is suede, making a nice contrast with the satin uppers.
Now for something completely and utterly extravagant – and I’m not just talking about the $830 price tag! There’s just something very decadent looking about these Manolo Blahnik t-straps, which seem to hail from another era – and an altogether more glamorous one at that. I think they’d make wonderful wedding shoes, although if you really love them, you might think it’s a shame to hide them away under a long gown.
Forgive me for the slight wedding-obsession this week, readers: I’m not planning on renewing my vows or anything, I just keep coming across beautiful bridal shoes that I just have to show you!
Badgley Mischka is fast becoming one of my favourite evening/occasion wear brands - in fact, their blue ‘Hyde’ peep toes may well be one of my favourite shoes of this year so far. These ‘Xango’ sandals aren’t quite as stunning, and the white versions definitely fall into the “bridal” category, but the mesh bow detail on the front is so pretty and delicate that it makes up for the plainness of the rest of the shoe. And hey, you always need a pair of black evening shoes, don’t you?
Pour la Victoire are selling the champagne and white versions of these shoes as wedding shoes, which interested me because although wedges make fairly practical shoes for brides (the heel gives more support than a flat, but is much easier to stand up in all day than a stiletto), you don’t tend to see a lot of them around, so perhaps these will be of interest to any wedge-loving brides-to-be out there.
I love the shape of the heel and the bow detail, and I even like the chunkiness of the ankle strap, although I know it’ll turn a lot of people off these. I think repeated exposure to this kind of style has helped adjust my eye to it, though, and I find myself liking them more and more these days too.
If you like them too, but don’t have a handy wedding coming up, you may be pleased to know they’re also available in black. They’re $180 at Zappos.
OK, I know I said I was coming round to the idea of feathers on footwear, but these shoes are just flat-out bizarre to me. I mean, how would you walk in them without standing on the feathers all the time, and tripping yourself up on them? Wouldn’t they get absolutely filthy from trailing along the floor constantly? Do they remind anyone else of a dead bird lying on someone’s foot? Is it just me?
If it is, these are $300 at Endless, and are sold as wedding shoes, although I guess you could wear them anywhere that seemed to require white, feathery shoes. I’m just not sure where, exactly, that might be…
I’d love it if these shoes could be available in a different colour. Red, say. Or maybe green. OK, black. Actually, you know what? ANY colour. Any colour other than white, because as pretty as these are, I’m already married, and I just can’t see myself getting a whole lot of use out of bright white shoes. Especially when they have this on the heel:
Yeah, they’re definitely wedding shoes, aren’t they? On the plus side, if you ARE planning a wedding, and are looking for something simple, but still stunning, these could be just the thing. And if you’re NOT planning a wedding, well, they’re a pretty good excuse to start, no?
These shoes weren’t in the “weddings” section (as far as I could tell, anyway), but I’m going to assume they’re bridal shoes anyway, because I just don’t see too many other people finding themselves in need of ivory shoes with giant corsages on the heels, do you?
Personally, I think the flowers are a little too much here, and would’ve had just as much impact, but been a little easier to wear, if they were ever so slightly smaller. If you can’t wear giant flowers on your heels when you’re getting married, though, when can you? So if you can see yourself walking down the aisle in these (or walking somewhere else for that matter), head over to Next, where you can buy a pair for £55.
White or ivory shoes inevitably make many people think of brides, but if you don’t happen to have a handy wedding planned, I think these Rupert Sanderson slingbacks could also work during the summer, for almost any formal occasion. I’m picturing them with a 50s-style prom dress in some bright colour – or, um, polka dots, perhaps. In fact, imagine these with a black and white, full-skirted polka dot number, and you’ll maybe get where I’m coming from. They manage to be both cute and sophisticated at the same time, and if you happen to have £480 looking for a purpose in life, they can be yours. Get them at Browns.
