VICINI Rapalla red and black ankle boots

black ankle boots red heel VICINI Rapalla red and black ankle boots

A black upper with a red heel is one of the fastest routes to a Shoeperhero’s heart, so these black suede Vicini boots were always going to be a favourite of mine! In addition to the colour combination, I also love the gold buttons, which give these a bit of a military feel (Why am I always drawn to military looks during the winter, but at no other time of year?) which has me itching to wear them with a full-skirted wool coat and a fabulous hat of some kind. I think the word “dapper” is probably the word I’m looking for here…

“Classic” is another word that describes these pretty well, and that’s a good thing, because at £388 I’d want to get a LOT of wear of them.

You can click here to buy these from Sarenza.

ASOS KESHA Two Tone Knee Boots

60s style boots ASOS KESHA Two Tone Knee Boots

These are a step away from my usual style, and could run the risk of looking a little bit costumey if you weren’t careful, but I’m rather digging (for some reason I feel that’s the right word for these) the 60s vibe of these, with their two-tone uppers and block heels. And despite what I just said about looking too costumey, I’d be so tempted to wear these with an A-line mini skirt, pale lips and backcombed hair, wouldn’t you?

Of course, if you don’t want to look like a visitor from 1966, any kind of monochrome outfit will work well with these, and they’re the kind of footwear that will turn a simple look into a special one.

These are £60 and you can click here to buy them from ASOS.

Heroes or Villains? Valentino lace knee boots

lace knee boots Heroes or Villains? Valentino lace knee boots

It’s no use: I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to get on board with the concept of lace boots. Lace-covered boots, sure. Boots made entirely out of lace, though, and with a fragile, would-fall-apart-in-a-heavy-shower look to them? They just seem so pointless to me. Maybe it’s just because another thing I can’t get on board with is the idea of boots as evening wear. I mean, these Valentino knee-highs obviously aren’t designed for trudging through the snow in – they’re very much “dress” boots – but my mind is hard-wired to make the connection that knee-high boots=cold weather + outdoor use. It would no more occur to me to wear knee-high boots to a party than it would occur to me to wear my coat indoors, so $1,295 lace boots are never going to make it onto my shopping list. (And thank God for that, I hear Shoeperman exclaim…)

What about you, though? What do think: shoeperheroes, or shoepervillains?

(For the record, I don’t really think they’re either, but I figured I may as well be dramatic about it…)

    Wowser.

(Aside: I think that may be the first time I’ve ever used the phrase “Wowser”. But it seemed appropriate, somehow…)

These shoes are by Charlotte Olympia, and they’re just a little bit over-the-top, with that silver and gold leather on top of the turquoise suede upper:

I think I could stare at them aaaallll day, though, so that means they get the thumbs up from me. Everyone should have a pair of totally out-there shoes in their collection, after all: click here if these are the ones for you.

    Shoe Save # 55/79: More vintage-look boots

brown boots new look Shoe Save # 55/79: More vintage look boots

    WHAT: New Look mid-calf boots
    WHEN: Thursday, October 10th, 2011

Houston, we have a problem. Remember how, in my last Shoe Save post, I was feeling smug about not having increased my shoe total? That very day – THAT VERY DAY – I placed an order with my site sponsors, Shopbop, which saw my total increase by two: more on those later. I’m really not setting much of an example here, obviously, so I figured it was time to up the ante with my shoe-saving, so here’s another pair of the boots I’ve been wearing-but-not-photographing lately!

Like my last save, these boots are also from New Look, and, as you can see from the heels, they’re due a trip to the cobbler very soon. They’re the brown/oxblood version of these black boots, and are super-comfortable, which means they get a lot of wear in the colder months, hence the damage to the heels.

leather suede boots Shoe Save # 55/79: More vintage look bootsI bought these in both of the available colourways because it’s quite unusual for me to find boots that fit well in the calf (I have more success in this area with mid-calf and thigh-high boots, which is why I own lots of those and hardly any knee highs!), and these were a nice, snug fit. They’ve served me well over the years I’ve owned them, and I’m sure they’ll last another few years too, once the cobbler gets to work on those heels, so they definitely had to be saved!

So, I have 24 more pairs of shoes to save and 13 weeks to do it in, not counting this week. That’s 1.8 pairs per week. OK, two pairs per week. Can I do it? Let’s hope so…

black suede ankle boots Shoe Save # 54/77: Black suede ankle boots

WHAT:  Black New Look suede ankle boots
    WHEN: Monday, November 7th, 2011

There really isn’t much to say about these shoes: I mean, what CAN you say about a pair of boring black ankle boots? Boring or not, though, these have been one of my winter staples since I bought them two (or maybe three?) years ago, and I’m determined to get back into the swing of Shoe Saving, so here they are, as worn yesterday! And also a few other times this year so far, when I was too lazy to get photos. Whoops.

So far I’ve managed NOT to acquire any more pairs of shoes this week. I know it’s only Tuesday, but hey, so far, so good!

DUO ‘Belice’ red knee high boots

red knee high boots DUO Belice red knee high boots

Like many (and perhaps even most) of you, I have a hard time finding knee-high boots which fit properly in the calf. Most boots end up looking like wellies on me, and I’m sure this is one of the reasons I’ve always preferred shoes to boots ( It’s also the main reason why almost all of my boots are either ankle, mid-calf of thigh-high): it’s just so much easier to find the right fit.

DUO aim to solve this problem by offering their boots in a wide selection of calf widths: you can even buy a pair that are made to measure. Not only do they provide the perfect fit, however, when I checked their website yesterday, I discovered they also have the perfect red boots, in the shape of the red, knee-high ‘Belice’. This is exactly the kind of red boot I’ve been looking for: the heel is high, but not too high to walk in, the leg is slim and simple, there are no strange embellishments or other details to detract from the streamlined design. They’re just the perfect red boots, which is a little bit like finding the Holy Grail, as far as I’m concerned!

There’s one problem, though: as you’d expect with a bespoke service, the boots aren’t cheap: this particular style is £180, which is a little out of my price range, although if you also have problems finding boots which fit properly, I’m sure it would be well worth saving up for such an investment piece!

    Lanvin black spike-heeled shoe boots

Well, apparently we’re going with a “black” theme for today’s posts. Don’t blame me, folks: I don’t choose the theme, it’s the theme that chooses me! I’m powerless to resist, and must simply do whatever the shoes ask of me…

Actually, I have been going through a bit of a “black shoes” phase recently, as I’ve mentioned, and these Lanvin shoe boots have got me thinking about how I could create a similar look for a small fraction of the £629 price. I’m thinking “wide ribbon on cheaper pair of lace-up shoe boots” should do the trick, no? These are certainly beautiful, of course, but it’s really the ribbon which gives them the “wow” factor, and luckily for us, that’s the part that can be easily replicated. Now to find a pair of suitable (cheap) substitutes for the shoes themselves…
