Giuseppe Zanotti studded toe cap ballet flats

giuseppe zanotti ballet flats Giuseppe Zanotti studded toe cap ballet flats

Leave it to good ol’ Giuseppe Zanotti to give a little bit of bite to the classic ballet flat.

At £380, these are way, WAY more than I’d ever pay for a pair of flats – in fact, you’d have to knock one digit off the end of that figure to get me to even consider it. But the studded toe caps on these are completely covetable (and just a little bit lethal looking. OK, a big bit.) and that’s why, in the entirely fictional world inside my head, in which £380 magically becomes a reasonable price to pay for a pair of flats, I’d totally buy these.

In real life, meanwhile? Not a chance. But if you want to, you can do it here.

Blink teal patent bow platform shoes

I have to once again apologise, folks: this is one of those posts where I show you shoes, and then tell you they’re sold out and you can’t have them. Well, not unless you’re a UK size 6, that is. If you are, you can still grab a pair of Blink’s green patent platforms at Nelly.com, where they’re £44.95. If you’re NOT a UK 6, however, I’m afraid I’m just going to (possibly) rub salt in the wound by showing you how cute they look on a foot:

I’m in love with the shape of the bow on these, and I also like the heel: I have a pair of nude platforms with a heel like this, and as well as being pretty to look at, it also stands up well the chips and other marks that a leather-covered heel can pick up, so it gets the thumbs up for that reason, too.

Neon crossover platform sandals from River Island

fluorescent shoes Neon crossover platform sandals from River Island

Unlike some other shoes trends which I’ve dismissed out of hand, and then gradually been won over by (Yes, pointed toes, I AM looking at you…), I don’t think I’ll ever get fully on board with the fluorescent colours that are everywhere right now. I can, however, deal with them in very small doses, with these River Island sandals representing the outer limit of my tolerance for neon.

I wouldn’t just “tolerate” these shoes, though: I actually really like them, and think the addition of the neon heel and strap is a good one in this case – imagine how much duller these shoes would be without it!

I also like the contrast of leather and suede, which is something that almost always appeals to me. My only issue with these? That dirty mark on the platform of the shoe on the left: once you see it, it becomes ALL you can see…

Jimmy Choo’s ‘Greta’ sandals are a bit of a red carpet favourite, and I can see why: I love the metallic suede uppers on these, and the knotted vamp: they’re very modern, with just a touch of old-fashioned glamour, which is a pretty good combination for a shoe to have, if you ask me.

These were worn by Jada Pinkett Smith to the Madrid premiere of Men in Black III this week: what do you think of them?

I wrote just last week about my love of gold shoes, and how well they work as a neutral - they’re a little dressier than “nude”, but just as versatile as they’ll go with so many other colours.

With metallic shoes, my motto is generally “the simpler, the better”, so I really like the way these Moschino Cheap & Chic peep toes combine a super-simple vamp with a cheeky little bow on the heel:

Charles Jourdan ‘Elena’ multicoloured suede sandals

These shoes have a bit of an 80s feel to them, courtesy of both the shape and the colour mix, but my current obsession with pastels is making it easy for me to forgive them for it.

These combine yellow, lilac, pink, peach and green, which will at least give you lots of options when it comes to choosing an outfit to wear with them: black, white, or some other block colour would be the most obvious choices, of course, but you can also just take your pick of one (or more) of the six colours on the upper, and go with that.

The crossover design is even nicer when viewed from above:

Now, wouldn’t those be pretty to look down at?

Office ‘Kind’ side bow peep toes

Yup, it’s yet another take on the “gigantic bows on shoes” look, folks! And this time, rather than place the bow on the toe, where shoe designers usually land it, Office have gone for the lesser-spotted “bow on the side” look with these ‘Kind’ peep toes.

These come in taupe and fuchsia, and both colours will work well with a summer wedding outfit, or with most of the season’s dresses: I think the pink version would look particularly nice with florals, or you could also go with some contrasting bold colours if you fancy doing a bit of colourblocking. The taupe, meanwhile, will work with everything. That kind of goes without saying, doesn’t it?

ShoeperStar: Eva Longoria in Brian Atwood ‘Vanity’ sandals

As soon as I saw the photos of Eva Longoria arriving at Late Night with David Letterman last week, I knew I had to get a closer look at those shoes! Luckily the photographer obviously had the same thought, and provided us with this close-up of the heel, which is … unusual, let’s say.

These are Brian Awood’s ‘Vanity’ sandals, and they combine a very classic, satin vamp with a heel which I’m actually struggling a little to describe. There’s fringing. There’s fringing. There’s a kind of rope trim. There’s a hole.

Overall, I’m not sure quite what I make of the shoes, but I think Eva made the right decision in pairing them with a simple black dress, and she looks fabulous, as always.

What do you think of these shoes?
