Office ‘Kiss Chase’ pastel platform sandals

I honestly don’t know what to make of these shoes. On the one hand, they’re certainly summery, and that goes a long way with me: I can forgive a shoe a lot if it at least makes me think of summer!

On the other hand, however, I’m a little worried about those flowers on the heel: as big a fan as I am of oversized embellishments, and as much as I like the pastel colours used here, they’re just a little bit awkwardly placed, and are going to both enlarge the ankle area and draw attention to it – not necessarily a good thing.

For me, then, these fall firmly into the “would have to see them on a foot” category. Other people have clearly been more decisive about them, though, because they’re already sold out in a few sizes at Office, where they’re £70: click here to find out if your size is still available.

Ted Baker ‘Tied’ bow-front Mary Janes

With my upcoming vacation just a couple of weeks away, I have summer shoes on the brain (more so than usual, I mean), and have even been finding myself lusting after flip-flops/thongs/whatever you prefer to call them.

Now, I know a lot of people absolutely loathe flip-flops, but I can’t share the hate, and while I don’t wear them too often at home (unless I’ve just painted my toenails, that is!), I find them really handy on vacation for trips to the beach or pool, or just for hanging around the hotel room. (Admission: I have a bit of a “thing” about bare feet on unfamiliar rugs and carpets, so flip-flops can be handy to have around in those situations: you can even wear them in the shower if it’s not quite as clean as you’d like, although asking to change rooms might be a better solution to that one…) And some of them are actually really cute, too: these Ted Baker ones, for example, cost a little more than I’d usually spend on thongs (I think my most expensive pair were some Havaianas, which I picked up on sale for around $8), they definitely win in the “cute” stakes, with that oversized bow!

Luckily for me, my lovely mum actually picked up a similar pair in the Next Clearance store a couple of weeks ago, so I’l be taking those with me to the beach next month: if you like these ones, though, they come in four different colours, and are £33 at Sarenza: click here to buy a pair.

Dune ‘Salute’ purple suede Mary Janes

I thought the Dolce & Gabbana Mary Janes I showed you last week would be pretty hard to beat, but actually, this version by Dune comes a pretty close second: not only are they significantly cheaper, at £75, they also come in this glorious purple suede upper, which I find all but impossible to resist in a shoe.

These shoes don’t need any extra embellishments to make them stand out: the colour and shape speak for themselves, and this particular shade of purple will work just as well in the dull winter months as it will right now.

These are £75 at Dune: click here to buy them.

These shoes are $1,798. And, well, they’re just a little bit “out there”, with the huge spikes on the toe and heel, the metallic leather and the Swarovski crystal heel:

I absolutely love them. They’re just completely spectacular, from the tip of their spiky toes to the bottom of that amazing, crystal-covered heel. Bonus points for the baby pink sole and rose-gold leather – such a gorgeous combination, and while these are never going to be the most practical shoes in anyone’s collection, I think they’d stand a good chance of being one of the most talked-about!

Shoe Save # 29/100: Old Faithful

    D70 2711 Shoe Save # 29/100: Old Faithful

SHOES: New Look tan slingbacks (also saved here and here)
OUTFIT: Mint green Zara dress; New Look clutch; Gucci sunglasses
    SAVED: Sunday, May 20th, 2012

Well, it’s a good job I managed to get so many pairs of shoes saved in the first couple of months of the challenge, because May has been an absolute wash-out: literally, I mean. I feel like it’s barely stopped raining at all this month, and that, combined with the fact that I’ve been more-or-less chained to my desk, writing advance posts for my holiday, has meant precious few opportunities for shoe saving. Or for, you know, actually leaving the house. Roll on June, is all I can say!

Thankfully, though, we did get a tiny window of both sunshine and spare time over the weekend, which helped save my sanity as well as my shoes: I was starting to get cabin fever from being cooped up in the house all the time listening to the rain! These shoes are a pair of golden oldies from New Look: I’ve had them for years now, but they have real leather uppers which have held out pretty well, so they still get quite a bit of use every summer. I wore them on Sunday to my friend Mhairi’s birthday lunch, with this mint green dress from Zara. I only managed to get a couple of usable photos of this outfit because we had to take them in a bit of a hurry, and it was colder than it actually looks, so I was glad of the cardigan I’d brought along with me. Still, we had a lot of fun, and it was lovely to spend a bit of time with friends, so that’s the main thing. I’m still praying for some warmer weather soon, though!

Faith taupe spotted peep toe court shoes

polka dot shoes Faith taupe spotted peep toe court shoes

These shoes are a bit of a strange juxtaposition of two styles: the satin, polka dot uppers suggest evening wear to me, but the brogue detailing on the toe says “stroll in the country”. Still, I guess I have to give Faith some credit here for doing something a bit different: with a satin upper, it would’ve been very easy for them to have simply gone with the usual bow/jewel embellishment, and as nice as that would’ve been, well, they say a change is as good as a rest, don’t they?

Is it a change that works, though? I wasn’t quite sure at first, but I love the colours (and of course, the print) on the upper, and that’s good enough for me.

If it’s good enough for you, too, you can find these at Debenhams, where they’re £60: click here to buy them.

    ASOS Sunrise suede effect wedges

Suede and raffia has (somewhat surprisingly) been one of the most popular combinations for wedges this summer, and ASOS’s ‘Sunrise’ pumps are one more example of that trend. At just £30 per pair, you can take it as read that the uppers are simply suede effect rather than the real thing, but as well as making them a little more affordable, it also makes them a little more practical -suede and raffia aren’t the hardest wearing fabrics for shoes, so at least this way you’ll worry less about ruining them!

I like the bright colours, the low heel and the almond toe on these and I also like the fact that they made them in my two favourite shoe shades; red and green!

White studded court shoes from Zara

zara white studded courts White studded court shoes from Zara

Just a couple of years ago, I hated white shoes – especially ones with pointed toes – to the extent that if you’d told me I’d one day consider wearing a pair of then, I’d have laughed, and thought you were a bit mad, really.

Lately, though, I’ve had a couple of occasions where I’ve been contemplating buying an item of clothing and have found myself thinking, “Hmm, I’d really need a pair of white shoes to go with that.” And trust me, I’m every bit as surprised by that as you are.

Which brings me to these Zara court shoes. They’re white. They’re pointed. And yet… I like them. I can even imagine wearing them, with either a patterned sundress, or maybe a pair of jeans. I think the fact that the white upper seems to have a bit of a pinkish tint to it helps (And let’s face it, I’m almost pale enough for white to be “nude” on me), and so do the studs, which mean you’re not looking at a glaring white canvas, so to speak.

What do you think of white shoes? And what you think of these ones? If you like them, they’re £39.99 and you can click here to buy them from Zara.
