A statement about the Shoeperwoman trademark dispute

Following on from the trademark dispute I told you about last month, I’m very pleased to announce that following negotiations between our lawyers and the owner of the Shoeper-Woman.co.uk website, we have now reached an agreement, in light of which the owner has rebranded, transferred domain ownership to us and withdrawn the Trademark application that conflicted with our website name.

Obviously this has been a difficult and stressful time for everyone involved, and we’re happy to be able to draw a line under it and get on with the important business of talking about shoes. Once again, we’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us throughout this: we will now be continuing with our own trademark application, and hope that, if granted, this will help give our brand additional security in future.

Thanks again for everyone’s help and support: it really does mean the world to us.

P.S. As a courtesy towards the other party in this dispute, we have agreed not to name either her or her new business name, and we’d appreciate it if you could refrain from mentioning these names in the comments here.

  • Woohoo, that’s such good news. I’m glad for you guys that you were able to come to an agreement and that this is over and done with.

  • Very good news! I’m glad for you and for us (your readers!) too! Well done and now relax a bit on the weekend – you two (and Rubin!) definitely deserve it!

  • Congratulations! I’m delighted for you both, it’s lovely when things actually work out as they should.

  • Aww wow! I’m so happy for you, I know for a fact how stressful these things can be from experience. I’m so glad thing worked out in you favour , what a relief it must be for it to be over !

  • Congratulations! So happy for you:)) Btw, I noticed Rubin has a wonderful few posts over at ForeverAmber.. I was wondering: does he do shoe posts as well? (considering the photo above and all, he must love shoes:D)

  • I am so relieved and over the moon for you. The law was on your side but you should not have had to go this far.

Would you mind if I re-blogged this post Amber? I had quite a few readers who joined in the campaign x

Now for you and Terry to have The Best Holiday Ever next month. Okay?

  • I’m so happy for you Amber!

I also just want to thank you, I think through this process a lot of readers (well I have anyway) have realised just how important it is to protect your blog and your intellectual property. I am currently rethinking my blog and will definitely be adding more protection to it such as watermarking. I know it’s only a small step, but anything is better than nothing! So thanks for bringing these issues out into the open, and giving us a cance to sow just how much we al care aboiut you too!

    • Thanks, Kerry! This is one of the positive things that I really hope will come out of this: that it will hopefully help highlight the issue, and help people protect their intellectual property better… As you know from my tweets, I found two blogs this week, both of which had copied and pasted hundreds of posts and images from Shoeperwoman.com, and since I posted about this issue I’ve heard from various people going through similar things. As the internet grows, this is only going to get worse. Blogging is a fantastic thing, but it’s all too easy for people who don’t know the legalities of online publishing to set something up and start ripping people off, whether deliberately, or just because they don’t really understand what they’re doing. I think lawyers specialising in this field are going to be getting a lot of business over the next few years, anyway! (Probably from me, if things continue at this rate!)

  • Huge congratulations are in order! I hope you all enjoy your much deserved vacation immensely! It’s great to see that justice does prevail in situations like this.

  • That is amazing news. Congratulations!

I know you cannot say it, but i would love to know the new name of her business. I would hate to end up supporting this women by not knowing. I was bullied my entire life and I would never want to support a bully, especially one of this magnitude.

  • Great news, congratulations! You know how you should celebrate? NEW SHOES! πŸ˜›

Glad everything worked out as it should have done, such a shame you had to go through all that worry and expense to sort it. Hope your new copycat (posted about on forever amber) gets resolved too, and you and terry have a really great holiday, which you deserve πŸ™‚

ps. Rubin looks prettyful, pink is his colour!

    • Thanks Ruth, we did indeed get that other copycat sorted. Not only did the hosting company delete the blogs that were copying our content but they also deleted dozen of additional copycat websites from the same person.

  • I had a similar problem with a Greman company who startted to do something.
similar to me – I signedup under the sitename to every single Photogtaphy Forum and bookmarking site and they couldn’t advertise theirs …
I suggest you do the same
    Well done !
