It’s time to talk about ankle boots…

I know it’s still only the middle of August (insert obligatory expression of surprise and “Where on earth has the year gone?” statement here, if you like. Honestly, I know everyone says it, and the relentless march of time really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to me at my advanced age, but it STILL always manages to take me by surprise, every single year without fail…), but I’ve got ankle boots on my mind. Actually, I’ve pretty much ALWAYS got ankle boots on my mind these days, ever since I realised the sheer futility of having separate wardrobes for spring/summer and autumn/winter, when I live in a country that doesn’t actually have seasons, and in which ankle boots are actually fairly practical almost all year round.

With that said, I have to admit we did get SOME summery weather this year, and you better believe I wasn’t wearing ankle boots for the duration of it. As much as I hate to think of it, though, I know it won’t be too long before the Christmas decorations (Yes, I used the ‘C’ word in August: I am so sorry…) start appearing in the shops, which does mean it’s probably a good time to start thinking about autumn/winter wardrobes again – or shoedrobes, as the case may be.

Ankle boots like the ones above (Which are by Dune, and available at Spartoo) have become a real closet staple for me over the last few years. I have pairs in both black and tan, and I get a lot of wear out of them – mostly with jeans and trousers, but hey – maybe this will be the year when I finally figure out the secret of wearing ankle boots with dresses? I always love the look on other people, but find it never quite works on me – but perhaps these boots could be the answer?
