ASOS Structured Skater Dress in Texture in Floral Print, £42

If this dress was just a couple of inches longer, it would probably be on its way to me right now. Alas, it’s just too short for me to feel totally comfortable in, although, with that said, the model IS 5″9, so I’ve added it to my ASOS wish list anyway. If the price drops at some point, I just might find myself tempted to give it a shot, and see for myself whether the length would work.

Actually, although I do wish this was longer, and I tend to almost exclusively wear skirts and dresses which are knee-length or longer, I have been keeping an eye out for some shorter-length tea dresses lately. I’m not talking super-short here, but during the winter, which I can’t wear dresses without thick tights, I think it’s possible to get away with something higher than knee-length – in fact, sometimes I think it’s even advisable, because I don’t know about you, but while I love my midis in the spring and summer, when I try to pair them with tights, I often find the look a little frumpy.

I’d love to find a floral dress that hits just an inch or so higher than I usually wear, and the shape and print of this one is absolutely perfect, as is the thick, woven fabric, which doesn’t look like it’d crease too easily. (One of my pet hates is putting on a gorgeous new dress, only for it to end up creased to bits by the time I get out of the house in it…) The high neckline, meanwhile, helps to balance out the shorter skirt, and it’s the kind of dress you’ll be able to dress up with heels, or wear more casually with tights, boots and a cardigan.
