Dress of the Day | Coast Ellie May stripe dress

Coast Ellie May stripe dress

Coast Ellie May stripe dress, £150

Coast released this dress in black and pink last year, and I guess it proved popular, because here it is back again for the new season – this time in baby blue.

Last year’s version was definitely popular with me – I love bold stripes, and also really like the structured shape of this dress – but I think I might like this one even better. The pale blue creates a lovely contrast against the black, and the simple shape works perfectly with the bold print. This is the kind of dress that will need very little in the way of accessioning, too: just add a pair of plain black pumps/peep toes, and you’re good to go!

Although they’re best known for their occasion dresses, Coast have also been building their reputation as the makers of some of the most beautiful skirts on the high street recently. Just look at this one, for instance:

Coast ‘Rue’ skirt, £129

It’s basically a skirt made of sunshine, isn’t it? SO gorgeous – and it would look wonderful with a plain white shirt, knotted at the waist.

Here’s another skirt – and a top to go with it, too:

midi skirt and crop top

This is such a dreamy combination: I love cropped tops with high-waisted midi skirts – it’s an easy way to update the look of the skirt, but thanks to the high waist, you only see a tiny glimpse of flesh (if that), so it’s not too revealing, either. If I had the cash (and a good reason to wear them), I’d buy both of these in a heartbeat: and although I don’t tend to wear a huge amount of jewellery (and don’t think this outfit needs any), I’d probably throw this necklace into my online shopping bag for good measure:
