Something a little different for this week’s Friday Fix!

I know PVC shoes will always have their detractors, and a few years ago, I’d have been one of them. Shoe designers have been working hard to rid clear shoes of the “cheap” connotations they used to – and sometimes still do – have, though, and Christian Louboutin has been leading the charge.

In Louboutin’s hands, PVC stops being a cheap and nasty alternative to leather, and becomes one of the tools with which you can create a true “barely there” look. In the case of these ‘Delicanodo’ mules, when you’re actually wearing them, you’ll appear to be wearing nothing more than a couple of decorative bows on your feet: when you put it in writing, it sounds pretty strange, but I have a feeling that, in person, it might just be spectacular, and I’d love to see these on a foot, to see if I’m right.

In addition to the ‘barely there’ feel, these shoes are also noteable for the bows themselves, which are grossgrain ribbons in a blue and yellow stripe. This is a slightly unusual combination, not because blue and yellow don’t work together – they definitely do – but because when we see navy used in a stripe pattern, it’s typically paired with either red or white (or sometimes both), for a nautical feel. The yellow, however, is a little less expected, but still very preppy – and absolutely gorgeous, too!

  • Blue and yellow were my school colours so they do nothing for me but I like the concept, I think. I’d really need to see these on a foot to be sure.
