Gianvito Rossi multicolour suede sandals, £545

This is my first Gianvito Rossi pick of the year, but I know it won’t be the last. This is a brand that really impressed me in 2014, and if these shoes are anything to go by, the design just gets better and better.

I’m not normally a fan of multiple colours on shoes, prefer to play it safe (and some would say boring), with block colours, which generally work better with my “the simpler, the better” style of dress. These three colour sandals, however, are definitely an exception to that rule: I absolutely love them! Purple, teal and yellow are three colours I normally wouldn’t even consider wearing together: on an outfit, it’s a combination that would have me reaching for my sunglasses – on a pair of shoes, however, it works surprisingly well, and I’d have absolutely no hesitation at all in wearing these. I’ve said it before, but one of the reasons I love shoes so much is that it’s far easier to be a little more adventurous with them than it is with clothing!

One of the reason the colours work so well here is the minimal design of the straps, which means you get a small dose of each separate shade. The PVC section on the toe also helps create that “barely there” effect, and also gives the shoes some killer curves!

When it comes to styling these, any one of the three colours in the upper will work – or more, if you’re feeling in the mood for some colour! I’ve kept the outfit itself monochrome, but have added a giant splash of yellow in the form of this River Island trench coat, which has been on my Wish List for a few weeks now. The colour isn’t always the easiest to wear, but I think it’ll be stunning for spring, and will look just as good over a pair of faded jeans as it does with this polka dot pencil skirt.
