Two trends have dominated the summer shoe scene this year, and, interestingly, they couldn’t be more different from each other. I am, of course, referring to the two ‘Bs’ – Birkenstocks and barely-there sandals.

I haven’t featured many of the former shoes on this site, because, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m sure they really are every bit as comfortable as everyone says they are, but they’re just not my style. Barely-there sandals, on the other hand… well, “comfortable” isn’t a word I’d associate with them, to be perfectly honest. Spindly heels and thin straps just aren’t built for comfort, but then again, I don’t think many people would try to use them as walking shoes, so as long as they’re comfortable enough to get you through whatever it is you’re wearing them for, I don’t think it matters that they don’t quite measure up to the comfort-levels of good ol’ Birkenstocks.

As for the appearance of these shoes, on the other hand, they very much ARE my style, especially when they’re as pretty as these ones by Schutz. The purplish-pink upper is just beautiful, and the double, asymmetric strap is a subtle change from the single-strap styles most brands have been favouring. The heel, however, is where these really come into their own: the flat, asymmetric bow is a lovely touch, and the kind of detail that turns a pretty shoe into a truly stunning one.

What to wear with pink barely-there sandals:

♥  ChicWish skirt  ♥  J. Thomson crop top ♥  Marc Alary for J. Crew ‘Kissing Birds’ necklace

I almost ordered this skirt last week, and am kicking myself that I didn’t, because it wouldn’t just work with these shoes, but with quite a few pairs of my own, too. Ah, well, there’s always next month!
