Kurt Geiger ‘Britton’ leopard print pumps, £295

I love leopard print pumps. So much so, in fact, that I own several pairs of them, and yet still always feel tempted to add to my collection every time I find a particularly nice example of the style – like Kurt Geiger’s ‘Britton’, for instance.

The ‘Britton’ pump is what Kurt Geiger consider to be their “signature” shoe (so I’ve just learned from their website): it’s named after their Britton Street (London) design studio, and is available in a range of colours, of which this is my favourite. I think if you’re going to have a signature shoe, a classic pumps is a good one to go for: it’ll work with just about everything, and isn’t going to go out of style anytime soon, so you’ll have plenty of time to get that £295 price tag down to a pretty reasonable cost-per-wear. Personally speaking, I’d swap the gold pin heel for a classic stiletto, but I do like the combination of leopard and gold, so I’m not going to quibble about it too much.

What to wear with leopard print pumps?

All this talk of signature styles made me think that a classic shoe deserves an equally classic outfit, so I’ve gone for one of my own “signature styles”: jeans, stripes and a trenchcoat – the kind of outfit I’ll reach for on those “I have nothing to wear!” days, and which I know I’ll always feel good in:

This is the kind of outfit that can easily be adapted for any season: just exchange the trench for a wool coat in winter, and remove it altogether in summer – assuming it’s warm enough, obviously!
