I think the word I’m looking for here is “WOW”.

Now, it’s not often I find a pair of true “statement” shoes which aren’t just a little bit on the ridiculous side, and it’s even less often that those shoes turn out to be by Alexander McQueen, which isn’t a brand famous for frequently taking a walk on the wilder side of shoe design. These shoes, however, may be different and distinctive, but they’re not unwearable so: well, not unless you consider a heel that high to be “unwearable”, obviously.

These combine a stunning, glittered leather upper with a Grecian-inspired ivy-leaf design, which twines around the ankle and over the toe. The 4.5″ stiletto heel is balanced out somewhat by the small platform, so maybe they won’t be quite so “unwearable” after all! The combination of silver and gold on the upper, meanwhile, breaks that old rule about never mixing metallics, and means they’ll work equally well with accessories in either shade.

So, what to wear with them?

I don’t often feature maxi dresses here, and don’t ever wear them in real life: partly because my short stature makes it hard to find one that won’t trail along the ground and make me feel like an extra in a costume drama, but also because I always think it’s a shame to hide a beautiful pair of shoes underneath a long hem. With that said, the Grecian style of these shoes made me want to pair them with something long and flowing, and this Oasis dress seemed like the perfect choice:

This is actually ankle-length on the model, so if you’re tall (or willing to have it hemmed!), you’ll still be able to show off those shoes!
