Edmundo Castillo Chica Queen, $1,050
I let last year’s snake print trend completely pass me by. Reptile skins/prints just REALLY aren’t my thing, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair of snake-print shoes which I didn’t think would be vastly improved with some other kind of upper: not even these ones.
Having said that, the snake print on these Edmundo Castillo wedges is subtle enough that when I first found these, I didn’t even realise it WAS snakeskin. From a distance, it looks like a kind of mesh-effect upper on top of a metallic heel, and while mesh uppers aren’t generally my thing either, I liked the look of these ones, with their curved heels and sides.
Now that I’ve been looking for longer, however, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s really just the shape that attracts me to these shoes (Well, it’s certainly not the price tag, that’s for sure…), and to be fair to them, it is an AMAZING shape. As with every other reptile skin I’ve seen, I’d like these better in another textile: maybe even in mesh, and trust me, that’s saying something.
What do you think of these?
I have been changing my tastes so much these days… I say this because some months ago I would have hated these shows… and now I see myself looooving them!
I actually like the print a lot, but not the shape: I still see hooves…
They are just awful. I wouldn’t wear them if you paid me.
